Dear Potomac Community,
It’s hard to believe we only have 3 weeks left in the 1st Quarter! Please be reminded of the divisionwide professional development day being held on Monday, 10/14 with NO SCHOOL for students. Please find Potomac Senior High School updates below:
+ CELL PHONES: Reminder! To limit distractions in the classroom and reinforce our schoolwide focus on learning, students will have limited access to their cell phones throughout the school day.
- Students WILL have access to their cell phones on the bus before/after school, during class changes, and during lunch while in the cafeteria.
- Students WILL NOT have access to their cell phones during instructional time either in the classroom or in the hallways.
+ ACADEMIC AWARDS: Our Fall Academic Awards Ceremony will be held on Thursday, October 24th at 9am in the Potomac High School Auditorium. The ceremony is based on student achievement from the 23 - 24 school year. Award recipients will be notified via individual letters distributed at school as well as a letter mailed home to families with additional details. Please contact your student’s School Counselor with questions.

- Focus: PWCS Special Education Department Workshop (A Family Guide to Child Find)
Target Audience: PWCS parents & families
Wednesday October 16, 2024 from 6-7 pm via Live Zoom Webinar
Click HERE to join this session designed to help parents identify and support children who may have special educational needs. We will explore how to recognize signs of learning or physical disabilities in kids and understand the importance of early intervention. We will learn how to navigate the Child Find process in Virginia, ensuring that every child receives the necessary support and resources to reach their full potential

- Trick or Treatment
On October 26, Prince William Water is having their second annual Trick or Treatment festival at the H.L. Mooney Water Reclamation Facility. It is a free, open-house event inviting the community to trick-or-treat around tables hosted by local organizations and learn more about the environment. See THIS link for more information.
- Water Art Invitational
Prince William Water is having their annual high school art competition and is asking students to create creative and original artwork depicting the 2025 theme, “Your Water, Your Environment.” Students are eligible to win cash prizes and recognition for their art. - Check grades/attendance before the end of 1st Quarter (10/31/24) and complete any outstanding information required via ParentVUE
- Pay the $20 annual Potomac PTSO dues by using THIS link
- Add the next VIRTUAL PTSO meeting on Thursday, October 17th at 7pm using THIS link, to your calendar and plan to attend
- Support Potomac Athletics by purchasing Potomac SpiritWear using THIS link
- Add the next IN-PERSON PAC meeting on Thursday, October 17th at 6pm to your calendar and email our PAC Executive Board at pshspac@gmail.com to join

+ SHOUT OUT! This past week was Custodian Appreciation Week and we are SO grateful to our Potomac Custodians for keeping our classrooms, grounds, and facilities nice, neat, and clean! If you find time, please feel free to drop a note off to the school if you've got kind words to share with our Custodial Team about the work they do at Potomac. I’d like to give special recognition to our fantastic Custodial Manager Ms. Mayra Rodas and our Assistant Manager Mr. Walter Zarate! Week after week we are able to host visitors and special guests with pride and provide our students with the very best environment for teaching and learning. THANK YOU Potomac Custodial Team!
