Good Afternoon Highland Families!
Dear Highland Families,
As we move into the beautiful fall season, I am excited to share the latest updates and happenings at Highland High School. The first quarter is well underway, and we are proud of the dedication and enthusiasm our students and staff have shown. From classroom achievements to extracurricular success, it's been a fantastic start to the school year.
As always, your support is invaluable in helping us create a positive and enriching environment for all of our students. Please let me know if you need anything.
Go Scots!

Career Expo Field Trip for Freshmen
We’re excited to announce that our freshman students will have the opportunity to attend the annual Career Expo at the Morrow County Fairgrounds. The trip will take place on October 16th, with students departing from the high school at 9:00 AM and returning by 1:30 PM.
Lunch will be provided for all students. During the expo, they’ll explore various career paths in Agriculture, Healthcare, Skilled Trades, Technology, and Public Service.
Permission slips will be distributed closer to the event, and they must be returned to allow participation. Stay tuned for more details!
Howenstine named to OMEA All-State Band
The Highland Local School District is proud to announce that Lorelai Howenstine, a senior at Highland High School, has been accepted into the 2024 Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) All-State Band. Lorelai is only the second student from Highland to achieve this honor! Out of about 1,200 applicants statewide, she was one of the select few chosen, with an acceptance rate of only 8%.
Lorelai, a trombone player and one of the Highland Marching Band's drum majors, has earned numerous accolades, including four superior medals at OMEA Solo & Ensemble contests and winning the Dublin Youth Solo Competition. She has participated in several honor bands and has been a key part of the Highland Marching Band's success at the OMEA State Marching Band Finals.
Beyond music, Lorelai is involved in National Honor Society, Student Council, Youth and Government, and the Highland Theater program. After graduation, she plans to attend a music conservatory and major in music composition.
Congratulations, Lorelai, on this incredible achievement!
Homecoming Festivities:
The Homecoming Football Game will be on Friday, Oct. 4th, against Galion, with kickoff at 7:00 PM. The King, Queen and the court will be announced before the game.
The Homecoming Dance will take place on Saturday, Oct. 5th in the high school café from 8:00 to 11:00 PM. The fireworks display after the game has been canceled for this year due to the abmornal dry conditions.
Boat Races
Ms. Steele’s Algebra 3 class teamed up with Highland Elementary’s 5th graders for their annual Boat Race Day. Over the course of two days, the 11 students constructed a boat out of recycled cardboard, hoping to row it across the pond. Zach Church and Liam Delaney bravely volunteered to captain the "SS Scotty Dub," but unfortunately, it sank within the first five feet! Jed Marcum, dressed as the Fighting Scot mascot, joined in the fun and had a great time interacting with the 5th graders.
FFA Trunk or Treat Event - October 29th!
The Highland FFA will be hosting a Trunk or Treat for our Highland youth on Tuesday, October 29th from 5:00-6:30 PM at the Highland High School bus parking lot. This event is open to children in 5th grade and under, with tables and cars set up to hand out candy.
We encourage all high school clubs, student organizations, and sports teams to participate by providing their own car, candy, and fun (non-scary) decorations!
