Unified Champion Schools will be holding another fundraiser this year to support our District Wide Inclusion Week. They will be selling short sleeved and long sleeved t-shirts and earrings to both staff and students/families and anyone in the community. You can find the link below. The store will be open from, January 6th, until midnight on Monday, February 17th. We will plan to wear the shirts as a spirit day on the Friday of inclusion week, March 28th.
From Mrs. Katie: Restorative Practices
Recently the Behavioral Health team took part in a Restorative Practices training. During this time, we were challenged to think about how we already use this approach with our students on a regular basis and how we can improve. You may be asking yourself what this means? Restorative Practice is a way we can strive to build a school atmosphere that is relationally strong, has genuine conversations and clear agreements. These ideas are important in elementary as we handle peer conflicts on a daily basis. Not only do we want this for our staff, but we are trying to teach our students this as well. Our Student Support Services staff have worked with many students during conflict on how to solve it with kindness and understanding. There are five key questions that are asked during a restorative practice conversation.
What happened and what were you thinking about at the time of the incident? This question allows your child to tell “their truth” about the situation without blame and interruption.
What have you thought about since?
Who has been affected by this and how? This question challenges them to think about how they are affecting their teacher and peers.
What about this has been hardest for you?
What do you think needs to be done to make things right?
Each party involved in the conflict is asked these questions with the social worker as the facilitator. More often than not, by the time the conversation is over, the students want to apologize to each other without even being prompted!
Snow Gear
While we do have extra snow gear for students to borrow, we have had a large number of students not remembering to bring their boots, snowpants, etc. To ensure your child is able to enjoy recess for the entire time and is comfortable, please help them remember to pack the essentials each day. Thank you!

Clothing and Shoe Donations
Do you have gently used children's clothing or shoes laying around? Dix Street welcomes clothing/coats/shoes that others may have grown out of. Please bring donations to the office and we will get them to students who need them. Thank you!
