WMS Weekly Warrior
October 21, 2024
Good afternoon Woodbury Middle School,
What an amazing fall weekend! Everything spells fall with vibrant colors and cool temperatures, except it may reach the 80s this week. This week is Spirit Week at WMS, sponsored by our Alliance student leadership team. Each day this week, we will have a different theme and end the week with a culminating Spirit Week Pep rally. Students can choose to use their weekly raffle to try to participate in the pep rally or place it in a drawing for our end-of-the-month prize.
Our Parents in the Middle will have their first meeting on Nov. 14th at 6:30 in the WMS LMC. As the meeting approaches, a Google Meet link will be sent to those who want to meet virtually.
On Nov. 1st, students will participate in their monthly PBIS activity. Power Hour allows students to choose from a variety of activities that they would like to participate in. Students who are eligible based on our school-wide Warrior Way rubric will enjoy a great activity.
Alliance is also sponsoring Scream Fest in the WMS gym on Nov. 1st from 5 to 7. Students will enjoy fun activities like costume contests, pumpkin decorating, and music provided by a DJ. Look for more information on Scream Fest in next week’s Warrior.
WMS is excited to honor our veterans this year throughout November. All members of the WMS Community are invited to honor a vet by completing THIS template with a donation of $1.00. A Display of our honored Veterans will be in our main hallway and posted on school monitors throughout the building. Families also have the option to purchase a flag to be hung around the halls of WMS for a minimum donation of $1.00 in honor of all Vets. All money collected will be donated to Homes for Our Troops.
The Woodbury Middle School Field Hockey Team raised over $900 at a bake sale this weekend for breast cancer awareness. Thank you to the team and parent volunteers who helped support this event raising money for a great cause.
Woodbury Middle School and Mitchell Elementary School will practice an off-site evacuation drill in the upcoming weeks. Both schools will notify parents when the drill has been completed.
Please remember that all Chromebooks need to be in the school-supplied case for safe transport from class to class and home to school.
Once again, thank you for getting your student to school on time. This makes a huge positive difference in getting class started on time. Students are much more successful when the day begins positively.
Have a great week,
WMS Admin
Bill Nemec, Principal
Aimee Shuhart, Interim Assistant Principal
Please make sure to review the Woodbury Middle School Student Handbook with your student regarding cell phones. Some of you may be aware that the state has issued recommendations on cell phone usage in schools. I have included the proposed language from the state below. Click the picture to access the entire document from the state.
• Middle School − The policy for middle school students should also focus on removing cell phones from the school day or classroom. Developmentally, this age group is particularly vulnerable to the negative effects of excessive personal technology use and has a difficult time controlling their impulses. Concurrently, middle school students experience increased autonomy and independence during the school day, which can lead to increased opportunity for cell phone misuse. − Possession of cell phones in this age group is likely to be viewed as a rite of passage into adulthood, so communication and application of policies that restrict use must be developed in consideration of the specific challenges of middle school students.
