Artifacts of the school-based meeting are to be maintained at the local school.

Article of the Month: Access and Equity in Mathematics Education by NCTM
What is required to create, support, and sustain a culture of access and equity in the teaching and learning of mathematics?
Key points from the article.
1. Hold high expectations for all students.
2. Provide access to high-quality mathematics curriculum and instruction.
3. Allow adequate time for students to learn.
4. Place appropriate emphasis on differentiated processes.
5. Make use of human and material resources.
The question becomes where is our school with ensuring access and equity in the teaching and learning of mathematics? What evidence do we have to support our claims? What would our students say? What would our parents say? What would our stakeholders say? What are our next steps? (These questions are posed on the Google form below)
The Four Levels of Learning in Mathematics
Phil Daro shares in the video the four levels of learning in mathematics that aim at demonstrating how to leverage access and equity in the mathematics education. After looking at the video, I reflected on our department. Our goal as a department should be level 1, however, I think that we focus mostly on levels 2 and 3. In my class, I focus mainly on level 2, but recently I have assigned student groups topics to teach to their peers; I interject when needed. I've found that they understand and retain much of the content and I am also learning from them. What are the four levels of learning in regards to our department and in your mathematics classroom?
