Egg Harbor Township High School
Week of September 1, 2024
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Dear EHTHS Families -
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year at Egg Harbor Township High School! We're excited to have our hallways full of students' energy and excitement again. As we start this new school year, we want to share some updates and important information with you.
Back to School Highlights -
Grade level assemblies are scheduled to take place on Monday, September 9 (Juniors and Seniors) and Tuesday, September 10 (Freshman and Sophomores) to review school policies. We'll go over school rules, what we expect from students, and the awesome opportunities they will have this year.
Students and families are responsible for the information found in our handbook (linked).
Important Reminders -
Students in all grades should bring their charged Chromebook to and from school on a daily basis. All students will be held financially responsible for any damages to Chromebooks.
EHTHS is committed to providing students with a quality and focused educational atmosphere for all students. As part of our commitment, we strictly enforce our cell phone policy. Students are not permitted to use their cell phones during the school day unless directed by a teacher. Phones are expected to be turned off and stored in backpacks or lockers throughout the day.
We are committed to providing a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students. Harassment, Intimidation, or bullying of any kind will not be tolerated! Please speak to your child about the importance of kindness as well as reporting any inappropriate behavior toward them to a counselor and/or administrator.
Meal Information -
Breakfast is free for all students and begins service on September 9th. Families who qualify for free lunch meals should apply on our website as soon as possible - https://www.myschoolapps.com/. Our lunch prices will remain the same at $3.75.
Therapy Dogs -
Guess what? Our furry friends are back! Marty (German Shepherd) and Charlie (Greater Swiss Mountain Doodle) will be around to help students feel better if they're stressed. These dogs wear blue collars and work with trained staff who wear blue vests. Students can find them in the counseling office and various classrooms throughout the week.
EHTHS in the Spotlight -
One of my favorite parts of the week is when I get to share all of the wonderful things that are happening at EHTHS and with our students!
Last May, a production team spent the day with us documenting life @ EHTHS. This is a pretty big deal— many schools were looked at, but iCivics felt our school (and another one in NJ) offered the best story. iCivics recently launched their new webpage and promo video featuring many of our students including our two student board reps. Just for context iCivics was founded in 2009 by Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, iCivics is a nonpartisan organization dedicated to advancing civic learning by providing educators and students with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to embrace and engage in our civic life together. This webpage and video will be used and seen by thousands of educators around the country.

Plus, our AP Government class got a shoutout in USA Today Magazine!
Check it out here https://usatodayspecial-va.newsmemory.com/?special=Back+to+School. (P 102). The article talks about how our students participated in a national project about being involved in government.
At Egg Harbor Township High School, one student, Demi Lu (12), has earned the AP Capstone Diploma in 2024. The AP Capstone Diploma program helps students develop critical thinking, research, collaboration, and presentation skills that are essential to academic success.
To receive the AP Capstone Diploma, students must earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar, AP Research, and on four additional AP Exams of their choice. Student participation in the AP Capstone program has been steadily increasing, with Over 100,000 students in over 2,500 schools worldwide taking part during the 2023-24 academic year. Approximately 21,000 students earned the AP Capstone Diploma.
Unlike traditional AP subject exams with a single end-of-year assessment, AP Seminar and AP Research assessments are project based and evaluate skills mastery through group projects, presentations, and individual essays completed throughout the year. Instead of focusing on one specific academic discipline, AP Seminar and AP Research are interdisciplinary: Students are encouraged to create research projects based on topics of personal interest. Students are assessed on the critical thinking, research, collaboration, time management, and presentation skills needed to complete their projects.
Congratulations, Demi!

#DAY 1
The High School will be continuing with this bullying-prevention program for this school year!
#DAY1--a staff and student-led philosophy that will serve to foster a building-wide atmosphere of kindness and inclusion.
This program was started a few years ago in Bergen County by the Tyler Clementi Foundation and has gained momentum throughout the state and country for use in schools, community groups, workplaces, and sports teams.
The premise is simple: the adults in the building make a “declaration statement” about behavior that is expected, as well as behavior that is unacceptable, and we all pledge to conduct ourselves accordingly. This includes seeking help when we witness unacceptable behavior occurring.
This notion is called being an #Upstander. Hit "play" below and see for yourself! 🤩
Has your student taken their #Upstander Pledge yet?!?
Have them sign into their school account and click here! 😊
