First day logistics
Will families be able to walk their child to class on the first day of school?
No. Families of 1st-5th grade students will not be able to walk their children to class on the first day of school. Families have the opportunity to visit the classroom for supply drop off and Back to School night. This helps keep our teachers on their daily schedule and allows for students to get right into their routines from the first day of school. Kindergarten families will be able to walk their child to class on their first day, depending on their last name (8/30 or 8/31).
When do families find out who their teachers will be?
Teachers will begin reaching out to their families on Tuesday, August 22nd via ParentSquare.
Do families need to buy school supplies?
We encourage families to purchase school supplies for their student and drop them off on August 24th at your designated time. Supply lists can be found by clicking HERE. If this is not something your family can provide, that is ok! We have supplies at the school as well.
What are the normal hours for school?
8:30 a.m. - 3:05 p.m.
*Doors open for students at 8:15am.
No supervision is provided for students before 8:15.
Doors close and tardy slips are issued at 8:30.
**Our parking lot gets very backed up. We encourage all who are able to, to walk or roll to school. If you choose to drive, please plan accordingly and leave your house early!
Arrival Procedure-
All 1st- 5th grade students will enter through the front doors of the school and will go directly to the gym until the bell rings for class. If students are eating breakfast, they will go to the cafeteria to eat before going to the gym.
Kindergarten students will find the RED painted line on the concrete and follow it to the undercover area where they will wait until the bell rings to go to class.
Dismissal
All change of going home plans must be into the office no later that 2:00pm. Please use THIS form to submit any changes.
We have 4 main ways of dismissal- car pick up, walkers, bus and Bethany Childcare/Other daycare pickup.
All students are escorted to where they need to be by an adult.
** Again, our parking lot gets very busy so please walk or roll to school if able to.
Please see the map below that shows our dismissal locations. Due to safety and security, parents must stay in their designated location (indicated on the map below) during dismissal. We have 860+ students that we need to get to their dismissal location safely. Again, please do not congregate near the front doors of the school or by the kindergarten gate. Thank you!
How do families find out about bus routes? Do families need to register?
If a student qualifies for busing, families will receive an email from Transportation with their student’s route information during the week of August 21st. Elementary students who live more than one mile from school qualify for busing; families do not need to register.
To find your child's route information, please visit THIS link.
After School Care
Bethany Childcare runs their program out of our building but they are not affiliated with us. They have a few spots remaining for this coming school year. Please see Bethanyafterschool.com for more information regarding their program.
Absences
Please fill out THIS form if your student will be absent or late. Please note that if you notify the classroom teacher of a change or absence, the front office doesn’t always receive it. Please also notify the front office by clicking the link above.
Walkers-New this year!
If you are located in the Hosford Farms Neighborhood off from Ridgeline or in the neighborhoods West of the school, you will gather to meet your children at the corner of Ridgeline and Kaiser by the Sato Sign.
If you are located South of Sato in the neighborhoods in yellow on the map below, you will gather at the back of the playground at the bottom of the stairs. Please do not go up the stairs and rather gather in the lawn below.
Please see the video below for further information and guidance.
Please only use designated crosswalks and for your safety, please do not cross in the middle of Kaiser Rd. We have crossing guards posted at Ridgeline and Kaiser to help you use the crosswalk safely.
Meals and Snacks
How do families ensure that their child will have a lunch to eat on the first day?
Students can bring lunches from home or purchase lunches in the school cafeteria. Staff will be available to assist students with purchasing lunches using their student numbers for the first few weeks of school, if needed. Please help us by practicing with your child how to open and close their lunch box and items that you pack for them. This will greatly help students to be independent and able to get started with eating quickly. Students have 20 minutes to eat in the cafeteria. This is another great thing to practice at home! There is no way for students to heat up lunches so please keep this in mind.
If your child will be purchasing lunch, there are two ways to add money to your account: 1) pay at school; cash or checks are accepted in the school cafeteria or 2) pay online. SchoolCafé can be used for online payments. There’s a small fee for using SchoolCafé to make deposits.
How much does breakfast and lunch cost?
Breakfast costs $1.65; lunch costs $3.05.
If students eat breakfast at school, when should they arrive? How do they get to class after breakfast?
All students enter the school at 8:15 and if they eat breakfast, they will come in the front door and someone will help direct them to the cafeteria to go through the breakfast line and eat breakfast.
How do families apply for free or reduced-cost school meals?
If you believe your student qualifies for free or reduced-cost meals, please visit the Meal Benefits webpage to apply.
How are food allergies handled?
Please be sure to notify our school nurse, Carey Stephens at carey_stephens@beaverton.k12.or.us. She will create a Student Health Plan that will put a flag in our system to alert the cafeteria staff that there is a food allergy. Additionally, we have allergy tables in our cafeteria that students can sit at. Please notify your classroom teacher if your child has a food allergy and needs to sit an an allergy table. Thanks!
Snacks-
We encourage parents to pack healthy snacks for their child. Students will only have 10-15 minutes to eat their snack so please send a snack that can be eaten within that time. Snacks should be kept in a ziploc bag or another container separate from their lunchbox. Some great snack choices include fruit, veggies, crackers etc. Many classrooms do not allow any peanuts or tree nuts into our classroom due to severe allergies. Please check with your teacher on this. Nut products are ok at lunch.
Dietary Restrictions-
All entrees in our cafeteria will be labeled as pictured below. If your child has special dietary needs such as the need to choose only vegetarian items, please help teach them to look for the green V as pictured as above.

Are birthday treats allowed?
No, it is district policy that no sugary snacks are allowed for birthdays.
How are birthdays celebrated at school?
With classroom equity in mind, we let the birthday celebrations happen at home. Students are not allowed to bring treat bags or gifts for others on birthdays. Sato celebrates birthdays in two ways:
1) Birthday books through the library.
2) Birthday card handed out by our Administration at the end of every month.
How can I purchase Spirit Wear?
Can I email the teacher about my change in go home plans?
No. Because teachers are busy teaching, and may not have the opportunity to check their email or ParentSquare messages, please fill out the change of going home plans form linked below. To ensure safety of your student and to make sure they are dismissed to the proper location, you must fill out the form by 2:00pm.

If my questions are not answered through the classroom newsletters or Raccoon Register, how can I contact the teacher?
You can reach your teacher through the ParentSquare messaging app. Teachers work from 8:00am-4:00pm each day and most of their time is spent with the students. Please allow 24-48 hours for your teacher to respond to messages.
If you need urgent help, please contact the office at (503) 356-2530.
When can I expect to see grades and hear about how my student is doing in class?
Official progress reports are given twice a year, one in February and one in June. Additionally, there are 2 parent teacher conferences schedules in the Fall and in the Spring where you have an opportunity to talk to the teacher in depth about progress.
