WE NEED YOUR HELP! Athens High School has been awarded a matching grant up to $10,000 from The Dekko Foundation to launch Class Piano at Athens High School. This exciting opportunity expands the robust offerings of Fine Arts at AHS. Funds will be used to purchase keyboards, headphones, keyboard stands, and other essential equipment for the lab. The matching grant encourages the local community to invest in our schools, students, and fine arts to make the piano lab a reality. Donations for Class Piano can be made by visiting ahs.acs-k12.org (select “fees”, “Athens High School” and “Fine Arts") or contact Mrs. Teresa Edwards, AHS Choir and Class Piano Teacher, at teresa.edwards@acs-k12.org.

Naviance
Athens High School is excited to have access to this software program that supports students preparing for college and career experiences. Please take a minute to watch the video below regarding student's access to this tool. We will be spending time over the semester looking at all it has to offer. Students watched the video and logged in to their accounts this week in Connect.
It is especially helpful for seniors to research careers, colleges and military branches.

Tardy to School and Tardy to Class
Athens High School expects students to be in class and ready to learn by each bell.
Tardy to school: A student will receive a tardy to school if he/she arrives at AHS anytime AFTER the 8:15 am bell. Tardies to school are excused or unexcused. Students are required to submit a written reason for the tardy to either the 9-10th grade attendance office or the 11-12th grade attendance office.
Written excuses require a first and last name of the student and must be submitted within three days of the tardy. Please note- two unexcused tardies to school will void an exam exemption for that class.
Tardy to class: Students are expected to utilize the allotted time between classes for travel and restroom breaks. Students should be in class and ready to learn by the bell. A student will receive a tardy to class if they are not in the classroom, seated by the bell. Hall sweeps occur periodically throughout the year. Two unexcused tardies to class will void an exam exemption opportunity for students.
Students will receive disciplinary referrals for tardies to school or class that are deemed unexcused.
Athens High School will follow an in-house procedure for these infractions.

Vape Detection
Athens City Schools is proud to continually invest in the safety and security of our students. ACS recently installed vape detectors on our Athens High School campus as both an effective solution as well as a vape deterrent. These sensors monitor air quality and notify the administration of the location where vaping chemicals and/or smoke are present. A reminder that any student who is suspected of vaping is subject to disciplinary procedures as outlined in the Athens City Schools handbook. As always, if you have any questions, please reach out to the Athens High School administrative team.
