One rule we have at our school is "Be Respectful." We are defining "Be Respectful" as listening to adult directions the first time.

CAFETERIA CONNECTION - JANUARY 2023
On the last December's in-service day, while the students got to enjoy a lovely day off from school, many of the Sun Prairie Area School District Nutrition Team gathered at SP West High School to try their hand in some new recipes and equipment in the new kitchen. The nutrition team put together a “Cook’s Corner” event where our kitchen staff was spilt into 4 teams to divide and conquer a spread of new recipes for 2024. Some of these recipes included a new menu to honor Black History month along with some new and trendy entrée options.
The atmosphere of the kitchen was like a cooking competition straight from Food Network. Teams were competing to make the better sweet potato or beans and rice dish to be featured in next month’s menu. However, the major difference between a cutthroat TV kitchen and our kitchen was the way staff was able to collaborate and trouble shoot to complete all the recipes with ease. After all the recipes were made, they got to try and vote on all the recipes for what should be included on the 2024 menu. Some votes were unanimous, such as the katsu chicken wrap, a team favorite. Other recipes, while fun to make, did not make the cut and were chopped from this year’s menu.
The team got to get a glimpse into our distributing facility as well, located in West High School, for our district’s school lunches. The West High School kitchen was built with intention of a having it be our main lunch distribution facility. For example, if you were to walk into the West High School kitchen at 7:30 am on spaghetti day you would see our staff hard at work boiling pasta for the entire district and getting it ready to be shipped to our schools in time for lunch. While this is still a new process, our team it looking to continue to expand this asset further. The West High School continues to take on new projects such as cooking off all the sausage from a local farm for sausage pizza day!
All in all, we called the day a success and were glad to thank and treat our nutrition staff with lunch as well as time to connect and collaborate. We are anxious to have our students try out our new recipes and hope they enjoy them as much as we enjoy making them for you. Our team is looking forward to another year of serving and providing above and beyond nutrition to our students.

New Electronic Safety Tip Line
The safety and security of our students and staff is a top priority for the district. We have been teaching our students to say something to a trusted adult when they see something unsafe. Sometimes, though, there are barriers to reporting safety issues in person. Tip lines are one common approach that schools use to promote school and student safety and well-being. Tip lines are designed to provide students or other members of the public with a safe and confidential way to report a threat to a student or school safety.
To that end, we have created an Electronic Safety Tip Line available on the district website. The e-Tip Line allows students, parents, or community members to report weapons, threats of violence, bullying, sexual harassment, threat of suicide, drugs, and any other activity that could potentially endanger students, staff, and property.
We are developing a communication plan to roll this out to students in upper elementary, middle school, and high school. The e-Tip Line is available on the district website from the “Families” menu and “Quicklinks” and can also be found on the district bullying and safety webpages. If a student wishes to file a bullying report, that Fillable Bullying Report Form is also available on the website.
