I have been told that you must excel at what you do in order to make your job look easy and our principals at Levelland ISD have mastered their positions. They work tirelessly to make those around them better and Expect Excellence at all times. Please join me in honoring our principals this month.

National Merit Scholar Honored
LHS Principal Dr. Matthew Birdwell always #expectsexcellence and sends out a huge congratulations to LHS Senior Austin Ellis. Austin has been named to the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program. Austin is honored for his exceptional academic promise. He placed in the top 50,000 students who entered the 2024 competition by taking the 2022 Preliminary SAT/NMSQT. Austin is awarded this honor because he has demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success by being scholastically talented. He is a self-driven leader in the LHS classroom, FCA, NHS, YELL, and on the field as an athlete. Austin has the best personality, likes to laugh and have fun, and is wise beyond his years. We wish him success in his pursuit of academic success. Congratulations Austin!
Law Enforcement Class!
Our LHS Law Enforcement Class took a field trip to the DPS Crime Lab in Lubbock last week! LHS #expectsexcellence and is so proud to offer this CTE course in the "lineup" for students to learn if they want to pursue law enforcement after high school. These students will learn about criminal justice, police systems and practices, crime forensics, ethics, vice & narcotics, and more! We love it when we see students getting hands-on learning!
Veterinary Medical Applications Course
LHS students in Ms. Wilson's Veterinary Medical Applications program went on a field trip to observe Dr. Jeff Ledford, DVM as he evaluated a horse on a local farm call. Our Vet Med students can earn their Certified Veterinary Assistant (CVA) after this program. To do so, they must complete 200 hours of in-class learning at Levelland High School with Ms. Wilson, 300 hours of volunteer observation at a veterinary clinic, and pass a certification exam. We thank local veterinarians like Dr. Ledford (Hub City Vet Clinic), Dr. Tracy Phillips, and Dr. Kirstie Middleton (College Avenue Animal Clinic) for providing wonderful learning experiences for our students! LISD #expectsexcellence and is lucky to have another amazing program that supports a career after high school!
WatchDOGS!
It was a full house at ABC Monday night at the WatchDOG sign-up event! We are so thankful to all the men that came to help with the Dogs Of Great Students! We can't wait to see these guys in the hallways and classrooms, learning about all the things ABC and helping with security! You know these men are going to learn a thing or two too! Thank you Invicta Testing for donating the pizza to feed this huge group!
GTs Study Texas
Capitol Counselor Mrs. Barbara Utley & Librarian Mrs. Pam Alexander #ExpectExcellence and engaged 4th-grade GT students in a virtual field trip provided by Frontier Texas in Abilene. This field trip introduced these students to a study of Texas this semester. This program generated a deeper understanding of the population groups that settled in Texas. These GT students will study immigrant groups of the past & contemporary immigrant groups. They will understand if the geography of Texas affected the settlers' decisions to move here. They will know how geography helped settlers make their choices once they arrived. Students will understand how physical geography is vital to the decisions and choices people have made or will make. Additionally, students will learn concepts of cultural geography. They'll find out what population groups brought with them from their old homes. They'll learn the contributions settlers made to Texas. This project promotes understanding of others through discovering similarities and differences among population groups who come from various places around the globe to live in one place. These GT students will learn so much, and their conclusion to this project is to curate & display their own museum of the Immigration to Texas for their parents & teachers! We can't wait to see it!
Young Entrepreneurs
3rd-Grade GT students enjoyed lunch downtown as they researched food trucks in #DowntownLevelland in preparation for their semester project to design their own Food Truck business! Mrs. Utley said, "These GT students learned about branding & marketing when reading the food truck signs with enticing names. They learned the importance of board or paper menus. They learned how to share their money to purchase bigger items, what a budget is & the importance of spending money on the right choice. It was a great day filled with lots of experiences!" They ate burgers, mac & cheese, Chinese food and dessert! We look forward to these young entrepreneurs building their own food truck business this semester!
Los Lobos Entrepreneur Store!
Mr. Hill's LHS Entrepreneur Class students opened Los Lobos last week! What a success it was! They sold $98 worth of merchandise in 20 minutes the first day. You can make a cash purchase before or after school to help make this class project successful. There's snacks, drinks, spirit gear and more to choose from!
Waste in Place keeps Levelland Beautiful
Keep Levelland Beautiful is busy around town as always. At a recent meeting of the Levelland Noon Lions, Kelly Hancock with Keep Levelland Beautiful and Cristal Isaacks with LISD & KLB presented a “Waste in Place” recycling program. Lions had to actually separate and categorize trash that could be recycled, reused, or discarded. It was fun! The lesson was concluded with Lions thinking about ways they could reduce waste.
