VIDEO: 2023-24 school year in review
Well, the 2023-24 school year is now officially in the rearview mirror. But you can relive a small sample of some of the learning and laughter through our annual year-in-review video. We hope you have a fantastic summer break, and look forward to welcoming our students back for the 2024-25 school year starting Tuesday, Aug. 27 (for all grades except kindergarten). See you then!
Captain Strong Primary holds first inflatable staff race
An idea sparked by a social media post "blew up" into what may become an annual tradition at Captain Strong Primary. Fitness teacher Kendall Edwards passed around the idea of a staff race in inflatable costumes. By the time they were lined up in the field behind the school with a crowd of excited onlookers, nearly 20 inflatable characters were present. The costumes included everything from a unicorn to a giant smiling heart (and two dinosaurs). The school mascot, Tracker, got things started and, amazingly, no one fell down. No one was quite sure who won, but the students greatly enjoyed the spectacle and the parade at the end. Way to go, Captain Strong!
Administrative changes for the 2024-25 school year
Administrative changes taking place ahead of the 2024-25 school year will impact leadership at Battle Ground and Prairie high schools, as well as Tukes Valley Middle School and Pleasant Valley Primary. Check out the full list on the district website.

Jeana Diaz - Pleasant Valley Primary
Two BGPS teachers receive Ellison Foundation grants
Congratulations are due for Pleasant Valley Primary multilingual teacher Jeana Diaz and Amboy Middle School special services teacher Ana Bernardo. Each received education grant funding from the Ellison Foundation.
Ellison education grants were created to empower and support the most effective, innovative and inspirational K- 12 public school teachers in the state of Washington. This is done by providing support to educators who design academic enrichment curriculum for students and/or professional learning experiences for their current practice. Grant amounts are between $1,000 and $10,000 and are used to fund additional enrichment at the teacher's school. We are proud of both Jeana and Ana for their hard work and dedication to meeting the needs of all students through their innovative approach to education.

Glenwood Heights students plant a new community garden
Students at Glenwood Heights Primary will have a brand-new community garden to learn in next school year. Teachers Lynne Berry and Mary Mendoza-Haensel each received a $500 grant through a professional development program sponsored by ESD 112. They used the funding to help establish a new outdoor learning space at the school, with the help of local businesses that donated garden soil and some plants. On a recent Sunday, fourth grade students and families came together to assemble the planter boxes, fill them with soil and add the first plants. At the suggestion of the fourth grade leadership students, the site will be named Glenwood's Grateful Garden. Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible!
