Principal's Corner
I hope all families had a great three day weekend! As we transition into September, we have many exciting events ahead of us. Many of those events we hold near and dear to our hearts at Old Town. One of the first events headed our way is APEX, starting on 9/16! Please take a moment to check out the communication included about the upcoming excitement that APEX brings to our campus.
Safety at Dismissal
Please remember the following when picking up your Texan at the end of the day:
Guardians who are picking up their Texan as a walker/ parent pick up from the blacktop must park their vehicles in a parking spot and walk to retrieve their child. Double parking at any time is not allowed. Parking spots open up frequently. If you are not wanting to park in a parking spot, you can join our car rider line and request a number here: Rider Number Request- New to Old Town Request.
Please utilize the crosswalks when navigating the parking lot. Let us help you safely cross the parking lot. Guardians should not cross the car rider line indicated by the yellow cones at any time.
Thank you for being mindful of the speed of your vehicle at all times and remaining off of your cell phone in the School Zone.
Our top priority is student safety.
Thank you for helping Old Town keep all students, families, and staff safe at dismissal.
Grandparents Lunch/ Lunch With a Loved One
Grandparents & Loved Ones Day is coming soon! OTE will be celebrating this special day for TWO days! This will allow Grandparents and Loved Ones to have their choice of Monday OR Tuesday to come enjoy lunch with their Texan. The different options of day will allow us to provide ample parking, and a more spacious visit in the cafeteria while you visit your student. You pick the day that works best for you and your family. There will be some extra tables set up in the cafeteria and some overflow in the main hallway. The OTE media backdrop will be available for students and loved ones to utilize to capture this special day. We can’t wait to see you! Be sure to bring your ID!
APEX is coming to Old Town!
We are excited to welcome APEX back to Old Town. This fundraiser helps Old Town raise money for field trips and enrichment opportunities for every grade. Click the image for more information!
Birthday Treats
We love birthdays! I would like to share with you that if you would like to bring treats for your child’s birthday, we are happy to help make their special day even more special.
Please be mindful of the following:
Treats should be dropped off in the front office and will be delivered to the classroom at 2:30pm
To protect instructional time, the class will have a small celebration at the end of the day prior to dismissal when treats are dropped off. We kindly ask that guardians allow this to be a celebration with the class only.
Treats should be individually wrapped and packaged or in a grab and go bag. Teachers will not be able to cut treats. In addition, we have several dietary restrictions on campus that require close inspection of the nutrition label.
We greatly appreciate your understanding and are excited to support you in making any Old Town Texan’s day a little more special on their big day!
Save the Date
Old Town Elementary is happy to invite you to our Open House on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. Our Open House will run from 5:30-6:30 pm with each grade level offering two different sessions to attend. We know that having siblings in different grades can be tricky when you are needing to be two places at once. Our hope is that by offering two different sessions for you to attend, this makes it easier to meet the needs of your family. The first session will run 5:30-6:00pm and the second session will run 6:00-6:30 pm. Families unable to attend can expect the information shared out by their child’s grade level sent out electronically.
On Time and Ready to Learn
Instruction begins for our campus at 7:35 am.
Having each student arrive on time and ready to learn is critical.
Should you arrive with your child after 7:40 am please park and sign your child in at the front office. To keep students safe, we do not leave any door propped open unsupervised without a staff member past 7:40am.
PTA
This is the last week to order your Old Town Elementary t-shirts and sweatshirts! They will be delivered to your student's classroom a few weeks after the store closes. I am not sure when the Texas weather will turn to sweatshirt weather, but I am so excited for my Old Town Sweatshirt!
I want to remind you that joining PTA does not commit you to anything! You can visit their website to learn about all the opportunities they have available for you to get involved.
Remind Information - Stay Informed! We want your partnership!
Help us reach you in more ways beyond our weekly e-news and social media.
Remind is a free, safe communication tool that our campus uses to relay messages quickly and efficiently to our staff and members of our community. We would like to encourage parents to sign up to receive information pertinent to Old Town - for example: late buses, start delays, phone lines not working, etc. This will be a wonderful tool to help us all stay connected. Visit the website to learn more https://www.remind.com/families
Sign up for Old Town’s Remind account by texting @acbd9d to the number 81010.
Be sure to sign up as a parent
InfoSnap
Please be sure to fill out the InfoSnap enrollment information that is emailed to you from the district. This contains not only registration information, but permission for yearbook pictures, Google Suite, directory release, district release and information regarding the Chromebook 1:1 expectations/charges for lost/damaged devices.
New this year!
Do you need to look back and find something from the previous enews? Located on the front of our webpage now is a tab that says e-News! There you will find all the enews that are sent out via Finalsite/Parent Link. Stay in tuned with all things Old Town!
Chromebook/iPad Apps
Throughout the year, we utilize online applications that will enhance the learning of your child and support and reinforce the concepts we are teaching in class. Before using these applications, we want to make you aware of federal laws and regulations that apply to the use of technology to support classrooms and require parental consent in order to be most effective. In order for teachers to use this online tool with student records or other information that could be personally identifiable, the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) requires that your consent be given due to the possible exposure of your student’s information to the website’s operator or to other participants. In order for students to use these programs/services, certain personal information must be provided to the website operator. Under the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), these websites must provide parental notification and obtain parental consent before collecting personal information from children under the age of 13.
Please fill out the form for app approval (available at this link or on the campus website) for each child that attends Old Town. If this form is not filled out by the end of September 2024, it is assumed that permission is given.
If your child is not returning to a RRISD school this year, please return all chromebooks with chargers to our campus.
YMCA After School Enrichment
eSports is offered at our campus after school on Tuesday & Thursday for students in grades 2-5. The first session starts September 10.

Please complete the following form and return it to the library no matter the payment method
All Kinder - 5th graders have begun checking out. PreK will begin checking books soon. We run things a little slower for our younger friends.
Thank you for setting up routines in your house for reading and returning library books. I teach students keeping them in their backpack is the best way to ensure they aren't lost or chewed on by the family dog. Thank you for also reminding your child to keep their water bottle out of their backpack. You can learn all about our library on our library website.
