February Focus: We Walk by Faith... in Knowledge
Spiritual Reflection by Miss Sheila O'Callaghan
Sunday, February 9, is the 5th Sunday in Ordinary Time. It is also World Day for Consecrated Life and World Marriage Day. There are also other February festivities to brighten our days.
On February 10, we remember St. Scholastica. She was a very holy woman and began a monastery for women. Her brother, Benedict, began a monastery for men. The way of life they developed is still followed by many men and women. They are called Benedictines. They have a special love for the liturgy.
Our Lady of Lourdes is memorialized on February 11. Mary appeared to a fourteen year old girl named Bernadette. She told Bernadette to drink and wash in water from the spring. But there was no spring there! So Bernadette dug around in the dirt. Later that night water bubbled up just where Mary said it would be. Every year many people visit Lourdes and wash in water from the spring.
Abraham Lincoln was born on February 20, 1809. He was one of our most important presidents. He signed the law that ended slavery in the United States. He is one of our most loved and respected presidents.
Jesus calls us to be people of love. Does it mean we should love only our friends or those in our family? Yes, but Jesus also wants us to love everyone, even people who do not return the love. This is a good message to remember when we celebrate St. Valentine’s Day.
February 14, is St. Valentine’s Day. He was a bishop who bravely died for his faith. The name Valentine means valiant or brave. Notes of love and friendship sent on this day are called Valentines.
St. Paul’s Letter to the Corinthians 13: 4-6,13, is all about love. Read it. It is beautiful and inspiring.
Love is patient. Love is kind. Love is not jealous. It is not boastful or arrogant. It does not insist on its own way. It does not become angry easily. It does not hold a grudge. Love does not rejoice in what is wrong. It rejoices in the truth. There are three things that last: faith, hope and love. The greatest of these is love.
Robert Straight died last Monday. He is the husband of Mrs. Christine Straight who taught third grade and kindergarten for several years at St. Ann School. Their daughters Alex and Oona graduated from St. Ann School. He is being buried from St. John the Beloved on Thursday, February 13, at 11 a.m. Mass. Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Please pray for the sick, especially Fr. Mink, Mrs. Miriam Harris, Oliver Conaty, and all the sick of our parish. Please continue to pray for Maureen Engelbert. Pray also pray for our Armed Forces and First Responders.
Day of Giving Success!

The $18,000 raised is earmarked to support technology expansion for our students.
