Heading Into Break
A Re-Cap of First Semester Work
On January 17, 2025 we will reach the end of an incredible first semester in Perry Local Schools and I want to thank you for your continued support of over 700 students and 95 employees. Here's a recap of the most significant work happening this first semester.
Our Schools
The elementary school has engaged in multiple days of training on the new Amplify CKLA reading curriculum, and teachers are enthusiastic about its implementation. Students have shown great excitement, particularly with the non-fiction content in social studies and science, which has sparked curiosity and engagement.
At the high school level, we are thrilled to announce a partnership with Rhoades State College to introduce two industry-recognized credentials: remote piloting and commodities testing. These exciting new opportunities highlight a fresh approach to career and technical education, with innovative programs and partnerships on the horizon.
We had healthy community participation in our Portrait of a Graduate survey. The insights gathered will play a vital role in shaping the programs and partnerships outlined above, with a summary of the trends to be shared in 2025. The collective voices of our students, staff, and community are instrumental in driving these transformative efforts.
Music and Athletic Programs
Our music and athletic programs are in a rebuilding phase, led by a team of predominantly new staff who bring fresh perspectives and a commitment to growth. This transitional period is both a challenge and an opportunity to create programs that will thrive in the future.
To ensure their success, it is crucial that we provide robust and ongoing support to our student-athletes, musicians, and coaching staff. This includes equipping them with the resources, training, and mentorship needed to develop their skills and confidence. Just as importantly, we must foster an environment that values collaboration, perseverance, and a shared commitment to strive higher.
Building programs we can all be proud of will require the collective effort of our entire community—parents, staff, and students alike. By standing behind our teams, encouraging their progress, and celebrating their milestones, we can create a foundation of support that propels both our music and athletic programs toward sustained success and achievement.
As we get ready for the winter break I hope that you'll have time with family, friends, and loved ones. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year, Perry! May all return safely to us in 2025!
Gratefully,
Dr. Kelly L. Schooler
