Lake Bluff Elementary School Family Newsletter
Hello Lake Bluff Families,
What a difference warmer weather and sunshine make! I hope everyone had a chance to enjoy the warmer weather this week. I know it brightened my days and I hope it did the same for you. However, with the warmer weather we also have an abundance of mud. Lots and lots of mud. Please make sure your student has boots to go outdoors in and a change of shoes for when they return back indoors.
If you haven't signed up for a student-lead conference yet, please make sure you click on the links below to do that. Conferences are March 13 & 14 (4K only is also March 12).
For those who celebrate, Ramadan Mubarak. If your student needs any accommodations during this celebration, please reach out to your child's teacher.
For your viewing pleasure, you will find some pictures of things that are happening around Lake Bluff below. Learning doesn't just happen in the classroom!
Finally, I wanted to remind you there is no school on Friday, February 28. It is a records and planning day for teachers.
Have a safe and nice weekend!
Kind Regards,
Johanna French, Principal

A Message from Michael Joynt, Director of Teaching and Learning
Shorewood Families,
The Wisconsin Forward Exam is a state-mandated assessment used to gauge how well students are doing in relation to the Wisconsin Academic Standards. Wisconsin students in grades 3-8 and 10 will participate in the Forward Exam during the March 17 – April 25, 2025 testing window. Students with the most significant cognitive disabilities will be administered Wisconsin’s Alternate Assessment, the DLM assessment. The Forward Exam assessment is administered at the following grade levels:
grades 3-8 in English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics
grades 4 and 8 in Science
grades 4, 8, and 10 in Social Studies
You can access the Forward Exam Information for Families brochure for additional information about the exam, how it will be scored, and access links to sample/practice questions. The exam is administered using a computer and is not timed. Accommodations and support are available for multilingual learners and students with disability-related needs. Student performance on the exam does not affect their current grades. Families should encourage their students to take the exam seriously and do their best. The exam results will be used to help school staff make determinations to best support students.
Your student’s school will provide additional information regarding school and grade-level specific testing dates. The dates will be shared through each school’s Weekly Bulletin. Families should avoid making appointments on these dates if possible. Students not in school on testing days will be scheduled for make-up testing prior to the close of the testing window.
If you have any questions, please contact your student’s school for additional information.
Thank you.
Michael Joynt
Director of Teaching and Learning
Meet our Staff
Every week we will try to showcase some important people that you may not know who contribute to the success of Lake Bluff.
Hannah Sydnor
Ms. Sydnor is Lake Bluff's School Psychologist and has been at Lake Bluff for the past 3 years. She holds a Masters degree in school psychology. Prior to her time at Lake Bluff, she worked in Jefferson and Waukesha. When asked something she loves about Lake Bluff, without hesitation she said "THE KIDS." She appreciates how inquisitive, kind and tenacious they are.
Ms. Sydnor's Fun Fact: She is a huge Disney fan and has been there over 30 times. In fact, she was once mistaken for Princess Aurora while she was there (for obvious reasons).
Save the Date: High School Students host Black on Broadway for BHM!
Shorewood High School is celebrating Black History Month with a special program on Thursday, February 27 at 7 p.m., honoring the incredible contributions and impact of the Black community on Broadway. Join us for this student-led musical journey that will highlight the voices, stories, and artistry that have shaped theater! Check back for an opportunity to purchase tickets.
Friends of the Shorewood Public Library: Yard Sign Campaign
The Friends of the Shorewood Public Library are planning to fill the village with yard signs in support of the library, beginning on April 6 when National Library Week kicks off.
This year’s yard sign campaign will be bigger than ever. And signs with a new slogan will replace the “I Love the Shorewood Library” signs that have been used in the past.
Does a member of your household have an idea for a great new slogan you’d like to share? A contest to choose a new yard sign slogan is being hosted by the Friends. Entries can be submitted using this Library Yard Sign Campaign link. The contest closes on Feb. 28 and a winner will be announced in March. Students are encouraged to enter.
