Pirates Post
Week of February 10th
Message from Principal Drew...
Congratulations to Catherine Howell on her success this weekend at the NCHSAA Swim Championships. Catherine swam a school record and personal best time in the breast stroke to finish 7th in the state for all 1A and 2A high schools. Catherine is the only swimmer in school history to place in the top eight of the state. Catherine also placed 17th in the freestyle event this weekend. What an amazing performance!
This week is Love the Bus week for all Perquimans County Schools. PCHS and PCMS will team together to recognize the drivers and monitors that provide such an invaluable service every day this week. We encourage you to join with us and recognize your driver and your monitor this week. A simple thank you as you board or exit the bus. A kind note or a small token of your appreciation for the job they do will mean so much to our drivers and our monitors. Take the time this week to make them feel special.
Penny Wars is back at PCHS! This is an annual fundraiser for our media center. The funds raised go to supplement the book choices and services provided for our students. We encourage all students to participate. The top three classes will receive a field day in April as their reward.
Valentine's Day is this Friday. As a reminder, PCHS will not accept any deliveries for students on this day. Parents and loved ones do not sent flowers, balloons, stuffed animals, or other gifts to you student at school. These items become a distraction in the classroom, can not be transported on the bus and can create health issues for other students with respiratory issues. Once again, we will not be able to accept deliveries for students on Friday.
Class registration for the 25-26 school year has begun. Counselors met with each grade level on Tuesday to provide information about the registration process and due dates to return course requests. Parents be on the look out for course registration information. We ask that you and your student review their course options and complete the form together so that the best choices can be made for them moving forward.

Financial Aid Awareness
As part of Financial Aid Awareness Month, CFNC has made available all the tools and resources to help get the word out about FAFSA February, the special month-long push to help more students and families learn about the resources that can help them pay for college.
Please join us sharing and amplifying the handy Social Media tools, PowerPoint slides for presentations and digital displays, as well as the FAFSA 101 landing page to help inform and guide parents step by step through the FAFSA (Federal Application for Federal Student Aid).
Remember - FAFSA is the First Step to All Financial Aid: With the Next NC Scholarship, most students from households with incomes of $80,000 or less will qualify for at least $3,000/year to attend a NC community college that covers all tuition and fees. For students planning to go to a UNC institution, they can get $5,000/year that covers more than half, if not all, tuition and fees. And for students going to a NC private college there is a state Need-Based Scholarship for them, too!
