From the desk of Career Pathways...

This issue is dedicated to our student organizations, clubs and groups, all of which engage our students on a deeper level in career development, exploration and 21st century skills. In all cases, students, teachers and their mentors dedicated many hours to their group outside of the school day building skills to use at competition. Whether teams placed high in their events or not, the value of the experiences is not lost.

ROBOTICS

Earlier this month, the Tartan Robotics team competed at the FIRST ROBOTICS COMPETITION in Minneapolis. Our team ranked 24th out of 61 teams. The team also had elementary students stop by to learn more about STEM opportunities. Robotics is inspiring the next generation! Robotics Advisor: Daren Dresler

ACE MENTOR STATE COMPETITION

Careers in ARCHITECTURE, CONSTRUCTION & ENGINEERING

The North/Tartan ACE Mentor team competed against other metro ACE Mentor teams on Wednesday, April 19 at the University of MN. The call was to build a "School of the Future," which yields a low carbon footprint. Our team didn't place in the top three but designed a really cool school of the future and were rockstar presenters! Congratulations to Tartan students, Colton Mergens and Christian Kasprzyk, and North senior Yaritza Perez. See our team's presentation.

BUSINESS PROFESSIONALS OF AMERICA (BPA)

Tartan BPA recently competed at the national conference in Anaheim, CA. They were one of only six chapters in the nation to get the Community Service award, and had an 11th place finish. All 11 Tartan students were recognized for their national level community involvement (Torch award). CONGRATULATIONS BPA and thank you for your continued service to our community! DECA

DECA students just got back from the International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in Orlando and have a WINNER! Over 21,000 students were in attendance and spread out over close to 40 events. Kyle beat out about 225 teams for his Business Growth Plan and made it into the Top 20 and came out of Finals with a Top 10 Ranking!!!

Yupheng Lee and Kayleen Xiong competed in School-based Enterprise and found out how ahead of the competition we are with our DECA School Store and Emily Juneau competed in Apparel & Accessories Management and really felt good coming out of Prelims. Minnesota as a state ended up in the Top 3 Internationally for total awards so it was a great conference all around! Students compete from all over the world at this conference. Next year is held in Anaheim, California. DECA Advisor: Craig Spreiter
