Laurelhurst Community Update
March 30, 2025
Dear Laurelhurst Community,
Spring Break provided a much needed time to rest and rejuvenate and prepare for the last quarter of the school year. My family and I spent some time at the beach, enjoying both torrential downpours and warm sun! As both a basketball and soccer fan, I enjoyed many hours watching exciting games with talented and team focused athletes. All in all, a fantastic break. I hope you and your family had a wonderful one as well.
🦁 SCHOOL NEWS 🦁
Reminder: No School This Friday 4/4 and Monday 4/7
This week brings the end of the 3rd quarter. As a reminder, our teachers have a grading day and a planning day so there will be no school for students on Friday, April 4th and Monday, April 7th.
The office will be open if you have any questions.
PPS Art at Prophet Education Center
Some of our talented Laurelhurst artists were honored at the PPS Central Office this month as part of the Grant/Wells Cluster PPS Arts Showcase. Art by Jonah Carr (7th), Hazel Youngers (8th), Joy Milesnick (5th), and Ada Roberts (7th) are now on display at the Superintendent's Gallery. Congratulations to our students, and thank you, Ms. D-Y, for fostering appreciation for different forms of visual art here at Laurelhurst!

🌷 COMMUNITY NEWS 🌷
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL SOCIAL!
We need many volunteers to help make this student-led event a success.
Please consider chaperoning at this fun and festive event for our middle school students.
This year's Middle School Dance & Social, planned and led by Ms. KC's 7th Grade Leadership Class, is an ode to the Big Apple, the City that Never Sleeps, Gotham City--that's right, New York! Students can come in their ritziest or most casual, and they will be sure to find something for them--Ms. KC is our returning DJ, we'll have pizza, snacks, and drinks, games, a movie room, and even a raffle! Be sure your student plans to stay for the entirety of the event - no ins-and-outs, and current Laurelhurst middle school students only, please. Please click the link above to SIGN UP AS A VOLUNTEER!
Middle School Choir is Back for Spring!
Middle School Choir starting Friday, April 11th through the end of the school year! The choir will be run by Laurelhurst Alums, now Grant Seniors, Pablo Riffel and Ella Donahue and supervised by our amazing Music teacher Ms. Blythe. Pablo and Ella have enjoyed amazing high school careers in Grant's exceptional music program, and they come ready to share their knowledge and skills with the students at their old stomping grounds!
Choir will run on Friday mornings from 7:30 to 8:15am in Room 25; students will be supervised for a study hall/free time in the library from 8:15am until the 8:40am bell. All students grades 6th through 8th are welcome to join. If your student would like to join the Middle School Choir, please complete our sign up form by clicking below. (Our apologies that the link sent in the Middle School communication over the break did not have a working link! The one below is the right place to sign up!)
Middle School Yearbooks are Now On Sale!
Our Middle School Yearbook Team has been busy since last fall creating this year's yearbook design, creating layouts, and capturing the best moments of the 2024-25 school year. Now it's time to purchase your student's yearbook! Yearbooks are $40 each, and all middle school students will be provided a yearbook regardless of ability to pay. Your purchase ensures that we can continue to offer this special memento to all of our students! Click the link below to purchase yours today.
8th Grade Families - Don't Forget Your Baby Ad
For 8th Grade Families, when you go into the Treering site to purchase your student's yearbook, you will also have the opportunity to purchase a Baby Ad for your rising freshman! Baby ads are $35 and must be purchased separately from the yearbook. They also need to be designed on the full site, not on a mobile device.
We recommend that you make the Baby Ad purchase when you have some time to upload the photo(s) you would like to use and design the ad. When you make your purchase, you will be taken to a design page and be offered a "standard" ad to use. You can use the default layout and fonts, etc., or feel free to get creative with this sweet dedication. Attached are a few pages from last year's Baby Ads pages to give you a sense of the variety. The deadline for Baby Ads is Friday, April 18th. If you have trouble uploading photos or purchasing a Baby Ad, please reach out to Brandie Roberts.

Laps for Lions 2025 Coming Soon!
It's time to gear up for our annual Laps for Lions fundraiser, where students run/walk/skip laps around Laurelhurst to raise funds for a very important cause. With our newly installed play structure (yay!), our 2025 fundraiser will go back to its roots – "run for the arts" campaign. We’ll use all funds raised to pay for supplemental arts programming in the school, from our Choir program to artists in residence to field trips to see plays, ballets, and more.
L4L at Work!
Dance and movement artists of various disciplines are invited in as guest teachers in our 7th Grade Mind and Movement elective. In this photo, Brenna from Espacio Flamenco instructs class.
2025 Laps for Lions Important Dates:
Week of March 17: Sponsor sheets go home with students
Wednesday, April 16: Laps for Lions! | Wednesday, April 30: Rain makeup day
Friday, May 9: Last day to return all funds raised
Looking forward to our kids running and families cheering on April 16th!
