THANK YOU PARENTS
The Rox El staff wants to sincerely thank the parents and PTA for making us feel special during teacher appreciaton week. We started the week with thoughtful sayings chalked on the playground. I know this put a smile on our teacher's faces as they walked into school. Staff were given chair massages to help us relax and were also showered with sweet treats. Next, we had a delicious breakfast and then flowers from students. We enjoyed the good food, but then really loved the heartfelt notes from families and students. We ended the week with a delicious lunch from Cilantro Taqueria. What a great week! It is so wonderful to work with such supportive families and we sincerely thank you!
Level 2 Lockdown Drill on Friday, May 17
With the assistance of local law enforcement agencies, Roxboro Elementary will conduct an ALICE drill, also known as a “lockdown drill,” in our building on Friday, May 17. ALICE stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate. These drills, which are required by law, allow the district to practice security plans, enhance safety, and offer increased options in the event of an emergency.
I encourage you to speak with your children about this drill and the importance of following the instructions during an actual emergency. Students should understand that drills are conducted, with and without notice, so that they can simulate an actual event and allow students and staff to practice responding in different areas of the buildings at different times of the day.
In the event of an actual emergency, the district will communicate with families through text messages, email, and/or the robocall system. Because the first priority of the district is to ensure the safety of your child, these messages will be sent as quickly as possible and after it is determined that all students are out of harm’s way. Please do not attempt to call the building during an emergency. All staff members will be assisting our students during that time and will be communicating with emergency personnel.
We thank you for your ongoing support of our emergency planning. If you have questions, please feel free to contact me.

Lunch on the Lawn May 30
All families are invited to attend our annual Lunch on the Lawn on the Thursday, May 30, which is our last day of school. The classes will be eating lunch for the first 30 minutes with their families and their teacher and then they will have the next 30 minutes to dance and listen to the DJ. The times for this are the following: Kindergarten and First Grade 11:00-12:00, Second Grade 11:30-12:30, Fifth Grade 12:00-1:00, Third Grade 12:15-1:15 and Fourth Grade 12:30-1:30. Classes will come out at their lunch time and stand in their lineup on the playground at the beginning and end of lunch. This will help our teachers take attendance at the beginning and end of lunch. A permission slip is going home next week that allows families to take their child home at the end of lunch. Teachers will have a checklist to ensure the students are signed out. That is why we are lining up at the beginning and end of lunch. Thank you for your help with this.
Families can bring a blanket and/or a lawn chair to sit on. Please look for the sign with the classroom teacher's name on it and find a spot in that area. We sent home a flyer for families to fill out on whether they are attending or not to help us know who to expect.
This is a really fun event that our staff, students and families look forward to every year. Not just because it is the last day of school, but it is a great community building event!
The District has adopted a plan for communications with persons with disabilities, which is available at the following link: Communication Plan. The plan establishes procedures to ensure that the District's communications with persons with disabilities, including applicants, participants, members of the public, and companions with disabilities, are as effective as its communications with others.
