Welcome to September!
This month is brimming with exciting opportunities designed to support our students on their academic journeys and to empower you as parents. We encourage you to take advantage of these offerings and engage with us as we work together to ensure a successful and enriching school year for our students. We want to remind you that our Family Resource Centers are here to serve as a hub of support and empowerment for all. Whether you are seeking tools, resources, or services, our centers offer a wide range of assistance that include:
- District information and resources
- Referrals to community resources
- Classes and workshops for parents, guardians, and students
- Information about District programs
- Access to computers
- Food pantry services
- Clothing bank—available to TUSD students and their families at Duffy Clothing Bank and all Family Resource Center locations.

Parent-Teacher Conference Workshop | Tips and Tools For a Successful Meet
Parent-teacher conferences are approaching, so get ready to maximize your meeting and attend a Zoom workshop with the Family Resource Centers. You play a critical role in your child's education. Conferences allow families, students, and teachers to collaborate and ensure the best education for every student. Join Lacey Grijalva, the Director of TUSD's Family & Community Engagement, a former teacher, and a current TUSD parent, as she shares valuable insights on Wednesday, September 11th from 5pm-5:45pm!
Topics covered will include:
- Roles and responsibilities
- Making the best use of allotted time
- Learning expectations and data
- Asking focused questions
- Following up and following through
FREE Tutoring with Smart Study Tutors
Study Smart Tutoring strives to prepare students for college, careers, and lifelong success. Through the Achievement Tutoring program, we can support students with math and reading schoolwork. We aim to provide tools so each student will improve and maintain their learning skills. This FREE tutoring service is available to TUSD students. Free Mental Health Services
We are excited to inform you about the ongoing availability of a valuable service at our Family Resource Centers in partnership with the University of Arizona known as Talk It Out. This free counseling service is open to all enrolled students of the Tucson Unified School District (TUSD), their families, as well as TUSD staff. We understand that life can present various challenges, and we are here to support you on your journey towards emotional well-being. Whether you are a student, a parent, or a staff member, we encourage you to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.
Community Partner Spotlight | First Things First
In this month’s newsletter, we’d like to shine a light on our valued community partner, First Things First. This organization plays a crucial role in supporting early childhood programs across Arizona by providing grants to community organizations that offer essential services at no cost for young children from birth to age 5 and their families.
We are grateful for First Things First’s unwavering commitment to our TUSD community, particularly for families with young children. We encourage you to explore their Pima County Family Resource Guide, curated by First Things First. This guide is a comprehensive listing of valuable resources aimed at ensuring that all Arizona children are ready to succeed in school and in life.
