A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome back! We hope your summer was filled with relaxation, joy, and quality time with your family. We are all excited for another wonderful school year at Kennedy Middle School!
For the last two weeks, our dedicated staff has been hard at work preparing for a year full of learning, growth, and new opportunities for all our students. We are committed to providing a safe, positive, and engaging environment where every child can thrive. Whether your child is returning or joining us for the first time, we look forward to working together to make this year a success. Thank YOU for your continued partnership in making this an amazing year for our students.
And as we embark on this new academic year, we want to emphasize the importance of kindness at Kennedy. Every day, we will be encouraging our students to practice kindness in their daily interactions, to be empathetic, and to support one another. Being kind is at the heart of all we do to learn and grow together.
Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns you may have. We value your input and look forward to collaborating with you to ensure the best possible experience for our Kennedy Crusaders.

Zach Prior - Band Teacher
Zach Prior is joining the KMS Band department from the northwestern corner of the state. His favorite instrument is the french horn, but he loves getting to play and teach them all! Outside of school, Mr. Prior enjoys playing computer games and Dungeons & Dragons with his friends, or playing with his two cats, Dusty and Moose. He can't wait to get started here at KMS!
Melissa Tacke - 8th Grade ELA
Hello everyone! My name is Melissa Tacke, and I am excited to be teaching 8th Grade ELA this year. I grew up in Germantown, so I am thrilled to return as a teacher. I can’t wait to meet you all and see where this year takes us!
Alexzandra Fischer - Dean of Students
Hello! My name is Mrs. Fischer. Last year, I was the Dean of Students/ACP Coordinator at the High School. This school year, I will be working at both the High School and Kennedy! The purpose of my role is to support students, families, and staff around student behaviors. Additionally, I facilitate the Academic & Career Planning lessons and activities. Mrs. Gieryn, Mr. Kohl and I will be working collaboratively to make this school year the best it can be for each and every student. If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding your student, please do not hesitate to reach out!
Megan Miller - PE and Health Teacher
Hello KMS families! My name is Megan, and I’m excited to join the KMS team as a new PE and Health teacher. I enjoy being outdoors, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. I’m looking forward to promoting a healthy, active lifestyle and getting to know everyone this year!
Tom Lange - Tech Education Teacher
I am new to the Germantown School district but not new to the area. I have taught tech education, woods, construction, and metals at both Menomonee Falls and Campbellsport School districts, mostly at the High School level. I have had the luxury of the best summer school job, teaching "fishing" at Richfield Middle School. I enjoy doing just about anything that doesn't involve just sitting around! I live in the Town of West Bend with my wife, Gina, and son, Alex.
Tim Gonring - Tech Education Teacher
This is my 11th year in education and 5th year teaching technology. I have a passion for baseball, Marvel, and 3D printing. I have a German Shorthair at home that is 5 named Zeus.
Madelyn Eden - Art Teacher
Hi! I’m Ms. Eden and I graduated from UW-Milwaukee in December 2023. I enjoy camping, walking my dog, and attending farmers markets. This will be my first year teaching and I am super excited to see what the year brings!
Jennifer Holst - Speech-Language Pathologist
Hello! My name is Jenny Holst and I am the new Speech-Language Pathologist at Kennedy Middle School. I received my Masters of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from Concordia University, Wisconsin where I also obtained my Animal Assisted Therapy certification. I love to read, research, play sports, and hike with my dog (Mavis). I am so excited to become a part of the GSD family and cannot wait to connect with the students, families, and staff.
Shannon Buerosse - 7th Grade ELA
My name is Shannon Buerosse. This is my 9th year in teaching. I spent most of my career teaching north of Green Bay, but I recently relocated to the Pewaukee area. I have 3 boys at home and enjoy spending time outdoors, hiking, cooking and reading. I am very excited and looking forward to starting my journey here at Kennedy!
STUDENT SERVICES ANNOUNCEMENTS
Let’s talk about it - Middle School Minds
The KMS Student Services team is here to support our students and families in multiple ways.
Our school counselors, Deni Topitzes and Becky Wittemann, help students transition to middle school, support positive peer relationships, teach problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills, and help students with the social and emotional challenges that often arise during middle school.
Our school psychologist, Kelsey Bayless, works alongside students, parents, and school teams to support students’ academic, social, behavioral, and emotional well-being. She supports students through collecting data and consultation to provide support within classrooms to address various student needs.
Our school social worker, Kat Hennekens, supports KMS, Rockfield, and MacArthur students and families seeking assistance with matters such as advocacy, attendance, community resource referrals, economic support (food, clothing, housing, and other basic needs), parenting support, special education services, and mental wellness.
We believe in a proactive approach and addressing issues early. If you have concerns about your child we encourage you to reach out.

ACADEMIC AND CAREER PLANNING (ACP)
Academic and Career Planning (ACP) is a process all students engage in from 6th grade through 12th grade. ACP allows students to thoughtfully develop their post-secondary plans through lessons around employability skills, interest exploration, goal setting, and so much more. Starting this year in Advisory (Hour 9), all students will engage in these lessons through Xello. Below is a calendar of the lessons that will take place at each grade level.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Fischer (6-12 Dean of Students & ACP Coordinator) at afischer@gsdwi.org.

KMS EVENTS & REMINDERS
Attendance Reminders
Welcome to the 2024-25 School Year! See below for helpful attendance information:
- School starts at 7:20AM, if your child will be absent or miss school for any reason please email the office at kmsoffice@gsdwi.org.
- If they are leaving school early, prior to 9AM, send your student to the office with a signed note. If the student is leaving after 9AM, alert office staff via email (kmsoffice@gsdwi.org) with the time your child needs to leave school, the reason for leaving, who will be picking up, and whether or not they will return for the day.
- If your child will be missing more than 2+ school days due to vacation or other family plans, you must provide notice in writing of this pre-planned absence, via email or note. Office staff will provide a missed homework sheet to the student.
KMS After School Spectator Expectations
Students who are attending after school sporting events, without a parent, need to report to the designated location immediately after school. Students are encouraged to quietly work on homework or other academic tasks during this time. If students have completed all their school work they are allowed to quietly socialize with their peers. If students do not want to stay after school but would still like to attend the sporting event, they will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
During the sporting event, students are expected to sit in the student section which is supervised by KMS staff. Students will not be allowed to sit in other areas of the gym unless they are accompanied by an adult. Spectators are not allowed to sit on the players side of the gym. If a student is attending a sporting event with an adult that is not their guardian or parent, that individual is responsible for supervising that student during the event.
Cell Phone Use - We are aware that students will need access to their cell phones during these events for a variety of reasons including but not limited communication with parents when they are to be picked up, change in plans, and or for emergencies. Students' cell phones should be stored in their backpacks, which will be placed next to the bleachers, and if they need to use them they will be allowed to with the supervision of a KMS staff member. Students are allowed to come to the Gold Office throughout the day to contact parents so that plans can be made or clarified. If students are not following cell phone expectations or using their cell phones in inappropriate ways, KMS supervisors do have the right to confiscate the phones and give them to parents when the student is picked up. Students who are not following expectations for after school sporting events will meet with KMS administrators and their participation in future sporting events will be discussed.
Students who receive school-based consequences (such as an in-school suspension) during the day may not be allowed to attend after school events for that day.
MORNING DROP-OFF
Please be kind and efficient while dropping off your child in the morning. There are two locations for drop off in the AM. You can drop off your child in the Main Office loop (south side) or the Student Services loop (west side). Here are a few reminders when dropping off students:
- You may not stop or park in the Main Office loop or Student Services loop between the times of 6:45am - 7:20am and 2:43pm - 3:00pm. If you want to stop or park, please use the south parking lot.
- When dropping off students, please pull all the way through the loop (by the bike rack) before dropping off.
- Remind your child to be ready to exit the car upon drop off so other families are not waiting too long.
As always, be kind and courteous, thank you!
