What's Going On At Veritas In June - The Last Month!
June 1, 2024
Wow - we are beginning the last month of the 2023-2024 school year! June will be busy, as there are many exciting events in the school and in individual classrooms, including day trips and overnight trips! It is important that, during this last month, families pay extra attention to Seesaw messages so nothing is missed!
It is the dedication of our staff, parents, and community that make Veritas the success that it is. Our Veritas staff go above and beyond every day to ensure all students have the opportunity to build life-long memories. The members of our Veritas School Council volunteer their time to ensure Veritas operates according to Ministry, CISPG, and local policies. Members of the Veritas Parent Support Group have contributed many hours of their time and have been very successful in their fundraising efforts and organizing a variety of events throughout this year that contributed to the Veritas experience. All of us working together in a collaborative manner creates a thriving school environment!

Fundraising Monies: This year's fundraising goal was $30 000! We are excited to share that we have raised approximately $25 000, which means we have come very close to our goal! Thank you to all our families! Funds raised will support the installation of the next phase of our playground in late summer or early fall.
Hot Lunch Class Volunteers: The VPSG would like to say a huge THANK YOU to all parents, grandparents, and friends who donated their time ensuring Hot Lunch was able to run this year! Grade 2 parents are responsible for June's Hot Lunch. If you are able to help out on any of the Wednesdays in June from 11:00 - 12:20, please reach out to Birke. We are looking for six volunteers to assist with a hot dog lunch on June 25 (Sports Day). Please contact Birke or the school office if you can help!.
We look forward to working with all our families in the 2024-2025 school year! Look for us at the September Meet the Teacher evening and our first meeting, which is tentatively set for September 11!
Notes!
Father's Day Picnic Lunch: We welcome all fathers, grandfathers, uncles, or any others who fill the role of Father to join us in celebrating Father’s Day! On Friday, June 14, you are welcome to come to Veritas at noon with a blanket and lunch to enjoy a picnic lunch on the school grounds. If it is raining, you will be welcome to spread your picnic blanket in the gym.
Sports Day: Tuesday, June 25 will be Sports Day for all students! There will be water activities, so please send a change of clothes and a towel with your child. We will also hold our slow bike race for any students interested in participating. All participating students must have a properly fitted bike helmet to participate in the slow bike race. Please check the weather and ensure your child is dressed appropriately. Parents are welcome to come and watch our events! Thank you to the VPSG for preparing our hot dog lunch for all students on Sports Day!
Library Books: All library books are due back the week of June 10-14 during library class. The final day for all books to be returned is Friday, June 14. If you have lost a book, please call the school office or email Mrs. Webb at jwebb@cispg.ca. Each lost book has a $10 replacement cost.
School Council: The final School Council meeting is on Tuesday, June 11 at 7:00 pm at the school. The meeting begins with an open invitation to all, before we move to the in-camera portion of the meeting. The mandate of School Council is to oversee the operation of Veritas School, including finances and staffing.
Catholic Corner
In the Catholic Church, the month of June is dedicated to The Sacred Heart of Jesus, which is the namesake of our Sacred Heart Parish. The Sacred Heart of Jesus has a cross, flames, crown of thorns, and blood. Each of these has special meaning so that we can remember His love for us. The cross points to His sacrifice, the flames are His purifying passion, the crown of thorns reminds us of His suffering and Kingship, and the blood reminds us of the side wound during His death. He spilled all of His blood for us.
This month falls within the liturgical season of Ordinary Time, which is represented by the liturgical color green. This symbol of hope is the color of the sprouting seed and arouses in the faithful the hope of reaping the eternal harvest of heaven, especially the hope of a glorious resurrection.
