Principal Message
What an amazing concert yesterday! Thank you to everyone for making it such a special day! Together we are better, and a rockin' team to boot!!!! A few items to note for the week:
~ Wellness Week & Walk/Bike to School Day: Wellness Week, sponsored by the Mayo Clinic, is next week, April 29-May 3. Wednesday, May 1st, is Walk and Bike to School Day. Please encourage your child to either bike to school (helmets strongly encouraged), walk to school, OR walk two laps on the school course to earn tickets for fun prizes. See flyer below for at-home ways to support Wellness Week.
~ Teacher Appreciation Week is May 6-10. You can help to support making this week a success by contributing to the fun. Please use this Sign-Up Genuis link to help support our teachers by donating something for the fun week that is planned. Also, the Reve Coffee Truck will be parked in the Washington Elementary parking lot on the morning of Tuesday, May 7. Information below. If you are interested in putting up a flyer in your place of work, especially if you work near Washington Elementary, please let Diane know, and she'll send some flyers home with your child. It would be great if workers at the hospital or clinic, or other close by places, knew about this event.
~ Spring Picnic: This is scheduled for Thursday, May 16 (rain date: May 23) from 5:30-7:00 on the Washington playground. See flyer below!
~ Class List info: Parents may wonder how students are placed in classrooms or teams. As a staff we fully understand the importance of assigning students to homeroom teachers and that endeavor is taken very seriously. Grade level teachers, special education staff, counselors and specialists work diligently to develop the class lists. The goal of the placement process is to create heterogeneous class units. This requires balancing the unique needs of each child with the overall school need for cohesive homeroom and classroom sections. If you feel your child has an educational need which should be considered when we place students, please email me at ahagge1@isd77.org by Wednesday, May 1. Only requests focused on educational need will be considered, and specific teachers should not be requested.
As always, thank you for your support--it matters!

MDE Redesigning Assessment Reports – Your Voice Matters!
Families, educators, and students (grades 8–12): Do you have ideas about how the statewide assessment results, like the MCA, could be shared with the public and school and district staff?
MDE is beginning the process of redesigning the statewide assessment reports. This includes evaluating how student results are organized and communicated (including the labels like "does not meet” or “exceeds" the standards, and what the reports will look like for new academic standards). The redesigned reports will be seen for the first time in summer and fall 2025.
Please take the survey to share your experience. It should take no longer than 15 minutes. The survey is now open for submissions until May 19. Responses are completely anonymous.

Your voice is important to this process. We appreciate your time and consideration.
Please reach out to mde.testing@state.mn.us with any questions or concerns about the survey or feedback process.
