Rock Stars of the Week!
Our boy's basketball team recognized Coach Larsen and Mrs. Pena this week as Hellstern Rock Stars! Way to go teachers!
Congratulations Piper Gibson!
Way to go Mrs. Peters!
Wendy Peters, GT Teacher at Hellstern, was awarded the 24-25 VFW Citizenship Education Teacher Award. VFW wants to identify and recognize America’s best educators who instill a sense of national pride in students.
One of the experiences Mrs. Peters has created is the Think Law/Mock Trial. Students begin with lessons on the Bill of Rights, Debate strategies, Jury Selection/Voir Dire, and Shouting Out Objections (their favorite). Through trials of the Big Bad Wolf and Bugs Bunny, students analyze legal documents, cross-examine witnesses (often playing both sides), and craft persuasive arguments. They learn to identify biases, assess credibility, and understand the discernment of truth – a skill much needed outside of a courtroom setting.
We are so proud of you Mrs. Peters!
Update: there is a meeting for Advanced Algebra I for 8th-graders at 5:00 in the Lowes Room. This is only if your student is not currently enrolled in 7th-grade Accelerated math.
