November 2021
Message from our President
Dear Fellow Rotarians:
Dear Fellow Rotarians Happy November and Happy upcoming holidays. The DHS Rotary Club is in full swing. I am, as we speak, on a bus, volunteering as a chaperone, picking up students at this weekends PRYDE camp. Jackie Chatman is at PRYDE camp, wrapping up the very busy weekend as a leader. DHS Rotarians have stepped up!
Our club is participating in the DHS Holiday Parade on December 11th. Brian has volunteered his motorhome as a float. Come and join us on the 10th to decorate at Jackie’s house . Our entry is “Rotary International - Winter Holidays around the world.” This will be followed by participation in the downtown festival with a booth. Come out and volunteer and participate in the event.
December also is the time for our own Rotary Holiday party, the 16th. Great food, fun and friends.
Thank you to those who are working on projects - Jackie Chatman, our Interact Chair, is keeping her students engaged in community service, Sam Messler and Jody Diaz have been busy putting together the DHS Rotary’s first participation in the District Music Competition, and Alan Ochsenbien with Mary and Jim Wilson, have been busy with this year’s 4Way Test Speech Competition. Thanks, guys. Thanks go out to other members who continue to be involved in club activities, noon meetings and as participants in these events and programs.
This month Rotary celebrates Foundation. Please consider talking to Bill Richter, Foundation Chair, if you are interested in knowing more about Foundation giving.
Our President-elect, Ruby Rivera, is busy preparing for her Presidential year…7 more months, Ruby !! She is looking for Board member participation. If you are interested, or tapped for service, consider getting involved in the leadership of our club.
Another demotion party for our Immediate past President, is in the making for January. It’s gonna be a blast. Well folks, thanks for letting me talk. I look forward to all of you getting involved in all the fun.
Always in Rotary Service

Jody

Highlight: This new restaurant provides amazingly generous portions for sandwiches and salads and the gals in there are so friendly and helpful! 😊
Marybeth Coleman
Business: Kelly’s Kennels and Kamp
Highlight: Kelly Bailey runs a doggie daycare out of her home providing daycare as well as overnight boarding. Kelly has all you would want for your pup to stimulate them and keep them busy while they are in her care. She takes time to get to know your pup and fit them in with the right pack!!
Allan
Business: J.G. Mechanical
Highlight :Juan's specialty is air conditioning/electrical/home repairs. He is extremely customer friendly, takes time to explain what is needed and why, and goes the extra mile for his customers. We had a water heater go out, and he stopped another project, obtained the water heater and installed it within a matter of a few hours. His prices are reasonable.
Ivan
Business: Farmer in the Dale, which is a family owned local business.
They sell a wide variety of fresh produce and groceries at great prices. Ernesto Draayer and his staff are always friendly and very helpful.
Sam Messler
Business: The UPS Store.
Highlight:For as long as I have known the owners, Floyd Barten and Kent Helser, I've noticed the high quality of customer service they and their staff provide their clientele. Surpassing that, the proprietors treat local non-profit organizations in a most special way with respect for what they do to help others. The UPS Store is a most definite focal point of pride in the City of Desert Hot Springs.
Inez

District 4-WayTest Speech Competition
Led by Alan Ochsenbein
The District 4-WayTest speech competition will be held in late April 2022. We hope to make this a regular event each year. The Vocational part will focus on employment opportunities in various fields. Speech and communication skills are a significant part of jobs for the future. This year the team of mentors include Rotary Club Members Jim and Mary Wilson both of whom have spent careers in education, and Alan Ochsenbein whose career included a large amount of public speaking.Music Competition Committee
For the first time, our club will be sponsoring entrants in Rotary District 5330’s MUSIC COMPETITION (Vocal, Piano, Instrumental), but we cannot do it without you.

November is Foundation Month
"The Rotary Foundation transforms your gifts into service projects that change lives both close to home and around the world.
Since it was founded more than 100 years ago, the Foundation has spent more than $4 billion on life-changing, sustainable projects.
Our mission
The Rotary Foundation helps Rotary members to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace by improving health, providing quality education, improving the environment, and alleviating poverty.
What impact can one donation have?
- For as little as 60 cents, a child can be protected from polio.
- $50 can provide clean water to help fight waterborne illness.
- $500 can launch an antibullying campaign and create a safe environment for children."
