Principal's Message:
Kia ora e te whaanau,
The last two weeks have seen the school celebrate some great successes. Ryan Foster has placed 10th in New Zealand for Junior National motocross competition. This is an amazing achievement, and we are very proud of Ryan. We also celebrated Jack Henry who received an award at the Wintec Trades Academy prize giving.
Continuing with the celebrations we acknowledged this year's sporting achievements at our annual sports prize giving. This event highlighted how well OAS achieves in sport with a number of students representing at national and regional levels. Congratulations to everyone who received an award. I would also like to thank the fantastic group of parents and community members who manage and coach our teams. Without the support of our volunteers, we would not do as well as we do.
Our Year 10 students have been on work experience for two days. The school has received a number of emails from companies that have had our students, praising their hard work, focus, and general willingness to pitch in. Well done to all our Year 10’s who have represented our school well and shown themselves to ‘Being the best we can be- No limits!’
On the property front, you will have seen the fencing going in around the school. The 15-week project is progressing well with all of the back of the school completed and the far side well underway. The project will finish with the front areas being completed after all exams are over.
Lastly, we held our annual graduation ceremony for our Year 6’s as they move into Year 7 next year. They all looked very grown up in their formal attire and it was a privilege to hand out their certificates. The students that spoke did a fabulous job and should be very proud. They kept the night flowing, were entertaining, and spoke confidently in front of a backed hub. Congratulations to all our Year 6 students for completing the first part of your journey through our school.
Ngaa mihi,
Rebecca Bills

Message from the Board Chair
Kia ora koutou,
Firstly, welcome to Tania Orono who joins our BOT as our Whanau representative with a specific focus on:
- Support the principal/tuumuaki and board by providing advice on how to best include tikanga Maaori in school practices.
- Highlight the barriers that may stop our Maaori students from accessing, participating or remaining engaged in schooling.
- Bring forward a mana whenua perspective to our discussions at the board meetings to ensure we are:
- Meeting our commitment to ti tiriti o Waitangi;
- Engaging with our Maaori community/iwi/students/parents appropriately and successfully;
- Holding hui/meetings that will provide substance for both the school and our Maaori community/iwi/students/parents; and
- Meeting our strategic and annual plans - relating specifically to our Maaori students
Tania has a deep history with OAS having attended in 1978 and with strong connections in the community I know she will bring tremendous value to our board and school.
Ag Day
On Saturday 29th October OAS held the annual Ag Day competition, a chance to showcase the mahi gone into months of rearing animals by our rangitahi, and celebrate being a rural community.
We had 48 animal entries this year, and there were outstanding displays throughout the Junior School of Ag Day art.

Outdoor Opportunity for Girls & Boys aged 14 & 15 years old
Tuakau District Sea Scouts have a well-deserved reputation for providing fun activities outdoors for our young people / rangatahi. While with us, youth learn amazing life-skills and meet lots of other like-minded young people from all over the region and the country.
We have a long list of ex-Venturers who are out in the world doing great things and contributing to their communities. They have all found that Scouting looks great on their CV's and provides glowing references.
Venturers meet on Thursday evenings during term time and there are often weekend activities that take them all over the place.
We respect that these are busy years at school and we try to help our young people learn work-life balance.
I look forward to answering your questions or welcoming you along to try us out.

We are delighted that after two and a half years of significant service interruptions, the Covid-19 Protection Framework has now been removed.
Whilst we transition through this new period, we would like to thank our communities for their ongoing support and patience.
The removal of the Protection Framework will usher in a new sense of ‘normality’ for dental services with Covid-19 pre-screening no longer required prior to an appointment. We do however, still require medical masks to be worn in our clinics by children over the age of 12 years and their parent/caregiver. Masks will be provided in our clinics.
The impact of the Covid-19 restrictions throughout the pandemic period has created delays in children accessing routine dental care on time. ARDS is committed to working through a recovery plan and has opened additional Saturday clinics to support access. Alongside this, a priority booking model is being used to offer dental appointments firstly for:
Children where dental treatment has been identified
Children who may be experiencing pain
Those children who have been waiting the longest for an examination
Children who are identified as having a higher dental risk
If, however your child is in pain or you have any concerns about your child’s teeth, please phone 0800 TALK TEETH (0800 825 583) to speak with one of our staff. Our staff will be able to assist with your queries and work with you to establish an appropriate timeframe for your child to be seen.
If you phone outside our normal operating hours of Monday-Friday, 8am-4.30pm, please contact your after-hours GP or Healthline on 0800 611 116. Alternatively, please contact your nearest dentist to ask if they are contracted to offer free emergency after hours care for children.
As we work through this recovery plan, we ask that you please continue to be considerate with our staff who are doing their utmost to ensure dental care is provided to children identified with the highest needs first.
The Children’s Community Dental Service.

The Childcare and Early Learning Centre on the school grounds has now been fully renovated. We’ve extended the operating hours and are now open Mon-Fri from 7:30am-5:30pm. We’ve also been through all the licencing requirements to now be able to provide spaces for babies for the first time, so we can cater from 3 month olds through to 5 year olds. We’ve also installed a Commercial Kitchen and hired a Qualified Chef to provide nutritious meals to children for the first time.
