Message from the Principal
November 22nd, 2024
Dear Corbett Families and Students,
In the wake of the financial crisis facing the district, decisions have been made regarding staffing in the high school. We have been impacted by the loss of our Strings teacher, Richard Littledyke, and the half-time reduction of our Spanish 1 and English 9 teacher, Tesla Strine. The financial crisis has been disheartening, and I am devastated to lose the quality educators that we have recently hired. While student schedule adjustments have been made for the start of Trimester 2, we will continue to have Mr. Littledyke and Mrs. Strine until Winter Break. Upon our return in January, students will have these teacher changes:
- 3rd Period Study Hall - Mrs. Angela Davis
- 3rd Period Strings - Mr. Nicholas Budge
- 6th Period Spanish 1 - Mr. Drew Wise
- 7th Period English 9 - Mrs. Angela Davis
- 8th Period English 9 - Mrs. Angela Davis
The reduction in force of district administrators has directly impacted the high school with the loss of Assistant Principal Tori Maehara. The wealth of experience and knowledge that Mrs. Maehara brought to our school will be deeply missed. One small example of her expertise that made a direct impact on the academic experience for students was the implementation of the "Strong Finish Plan", in which she identified students who were in danger of failing one class with 3 weeks left in the term, and had homeroom teachers meet individually with students to get back on track. Teachers and students reported that this made a significant difference in their success.
Trimester 1 grades should be posted by December 2nd, please view those on ParentVue. Students who earned Incompletes will be invited to Friday School starting December 6th, 9:00 am-Noon.
As we enter into Thanksgiving break, I want to note that I am thankful for our community as I am surrounded by excellent educators, great students, and supportive families.
Take care,
Kathy Childress
HS Principal

Corbett’s 2024 Cross Country season was a resounding success. Our team was led by captains Flynn Parrish and Thatcher Peterson as well as seniors Natalie Matias, Logan Auble, Matthew Caulfield, Caiden McHenry and Bryce Plummer, each of whom embodied our XC values of Passion, Purpose and Perseverance. From the mud pit and river crossings of Ultimook to the never-ending hills of Catlin Gable to our 2nd Annual Corbett Zombie Relay, our athletes have grown as people and as athletes. Highlights of this season include:
- Our athletes earned 79 Season or Personal Records.
Among the Coastal Range League teams, Vivienne Duvall, Elaia Pastor and Claire Turner all placed within the top 14 runners at our district championship.
Four of our current runners, Logan Matias, Vivienne Duvall, Zevi Gross and Elaia Pastor, rank in the top 10 all-time Corbett runners for whom we have records.

Senior Corner (Respost)
Seniors are reminded that some colleges and universities had their early action/early application deadlines on November 1st and others are coming up. Each institution sets their own deadline, so students should make sure to check the timelines for the schools they are hoping to attend. If a student missed early action, it just means that they will apply in the next window.
Ms. Pekny, our school counselor, is here to support you and your family every step of the way. If you have any questions at the moment, please reach out to Ms. Pekny at spekny@corbett.k12.or.us and she’ll be happy to help!
Ms. Pekny is also organizing group college visits this fall. Check out the Senior Google Classroom for more information.
