Toongabbie West PS Public Speaking Competition
Congratulations to our students who reached the final round of our school's Public Speaking Competition!
I was truly impressed by the quality of the speeches and the confidence demonstrated by each student. Your hard work and dedication have clearly paid off.
A special thank you to Mrs. Scott-Stevenson for organising this fantastic opportunity for our students.
Our highly commended participants and winners below demonstrated exceptional skills and dedication, truly shining through in the competition.
Recognising our school counsellor: Little Moments, Lasting Change
Friday 8th November 2024 is School Counsellor and School Psychologist Recognition Day. We will be celebrating our wonderful School Counsellor, Mrs Kathie Chetty, who consistently goes above and beyond to support our students and families.
This year’s theme, "Little Moments, Lasting Change," captures the essence of the invaluable work our counsellors/psychologists do every day. They have provided little moments of listening, understanding, and connecting that have supported students, families, and staff to notice their needs and strengths, persevere and grow.
Mrs Chetty, we are grateful for your skills, professionalism, and dedication.
Thank you for the hard work you have provided to the students and families at Toongabbie West Public School. Your commitment makes a significant difference in their lives.
Tell Them From Me
The Tell Them From Me parent survey helps to clarify and strengthen the important relationship between parent and school.
This is an opportunity for parents/carers to share their feedback for our school to use to make practical improvements.
The survey is anonymous and takes 15 minutes to complete.
I encourage all parents/carers to take part in this survey to further improve our school.

HS
In HS we have been doing lots of hands-on learning. We have been experimenting in science to create chemical reactions using milk to make colours. Students enjoy spending time with their buddy class HN and teaching them how to play our favourite game trash using playing cards.
We were very “angry” the day our chairs went on strike and we couldn’t use them for the morning. We came up with creative ways to convince our chairs that we needed them and would use them properly.
On 23rd September we celebrated International Day of Sign Language. This involved students from the Hearing Unit coming together to complete some activities and celebrate.
PBL
In the Week 2 assembly we congratulated these students for receiving a Bronze award. These students are on their way to receiving their first, second or possibly third silver award. Well done to all of these students on their hard work!
Additionally, at the Week 3 Monday morning assembly, we congratulated these students in our school who have consistently demonstrated the PBL expectations. A huge congratulations to the students below!
We, as the PBL team, have created a visual to assist the students, parents and carers with the progression of the Tassie Stamp awards. Please see this below.

The Importance of Unplugging: Digital Detox for Mental Health
In our increasingly connected world, it's easy for screens to dominate our lives. While technology brings many benefits, too much screen time can impact both our mental and emotional well-being. As we approach the end of the school year, it’s a great time to reflect on creating healthier digital habits—for both you and your children.
Here are a few tips to help your family practice a digital detox:
- Set Screen-Free Zones – Designate areas in your home where devices are not allowed, such as the dinner table or bedrooms. This encourages family conversations and better sleep habits
- Create Tech-Free Times – Establish specific times during the day for everyone to unplug, like an hour before bedtime or during family activities. These moments help everyone recharge mentally and emotionally.
- Encourage Offline Hobbies – Support your child’s interest in offline activities like sports, reading, or creative arts. Engage in these activities together as a family to make them even more enjoyable.
- Be a Role Model – Children learn by example. Practice healthy screen habits yourself by limiting phone use during family time and prioritising face-to-face interactions.
Taking small steps toward reducing screen time can lead to significant improvements in mental well-being for the whole family. By consciously unplugging, we can create more meaningful connections with each other and with ourselves.
If you’d like for your child to be part of the chaplain run programs or need support, please contact the classroom teacher. I am available on Thursdays/ Fridays at school and appointments can be made though the office.
Kind regards,
Agnes Anandaraj
