Two New Updates!
And no, we didn’t have two chapels, just keep reading! Pastor Adam Vander Stoep from Hull leads us this week in chapel. His challenge is for us to consider how we would like to be remembered, and then to consider if the choices we are making now are leading to that type of reputation for ourselves. Our Faithpacks dig into this theme in a more personal way, and Andrew Hoekstra and team lead us in songs and liturgy. In addition to that, Ms. Bierma and I are leading chapel at Sanborn Christian on Thursday. A group of six students will lead SCS with some songs and a skit, using the theme of Trust. We love working alongside our area grade schools and our students love to get back to grade school for these visits! To God be all the glory for many worship opportunities!
All of these events will be livestreamed. Please consider joining us for chapel by subscribing to Western Christian High School Livestreams on YouTube.

Covenant Partnership
Digging through Western’s archives reveals some interesting insights into Western’s founding. In 1919, the first year at then Western Academy, the school’s operating budget was $8,000. The faculty was lean; one teaching Principal and one additional full-time teacher. Tuition was, get ready… $50 per student. It would be interesting to know how that translates into 2024 dollars; to be sure, it was a sacrificial commitment for families. With 40 students enrolled that first year, there was a significant gap between tuition and the full cost of educating each student. Over Western’s 105-year history, our society has played a significant role in providing young men and women the gift of a Christ-centered education. Our prayer is that the church, home, school covenant partnership remains vibrant for the next 100 years at Western Christian.

PROFESSIONAL LEARNING
This week in professional learning, teachers had an opportunity to share some of their highlights of Heartland convention. Teachers were asked to add 1-2 items to a group document that is shared with all teachers. The hope was that this could become a compilation of the best things learned at Heartland, and teachers did an excellent job contributing to the list. Teachers also had time to continue working on updating and developing their curriculum maps. These are a very important tool for tracking the academics at Western.

We know that each student presents a unique combination of such strengths. We believe it is our responsibility to meet students where they are at in their journey and equip them with the tools and resources required to exceed their potential. To meet the need, we have a Student Support Team with a variety of resources. Go here to learn more about who to connect with!

What I’ve Learned About School Choice
Before their children started school, this couple explored public, private, and homeschool options without clear conviction and eventually enrolled their oldest son in a public Spanish immersion program. After homeschooling during the pandemic, they transitioned to a private Christian school, realizing that school decisions are flexible, guided by wisdom, and ultimately under God's sovereign care.
Check out this quick read about the School Choice movement -- several good takeaways!

Western Christian High School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, or national or ethnic origin in the administration of its educational policies, admission policies, scholarship and loan programs (if any exist), and athletic or other school administered programs.
