GLOW GAZETTE
WEEK OF MAY 20, 2024
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
GLOW Students & Families,
It's hard to believe, but this will be the last installment of the GLOW Gazette Family Newsletter for 2023-2024, as students have just 3.5 days left in this school year, and GLOW's Class of 2024 will graduate this week! That being said, these 3.5 days are important ones as both middle school and high school students will be taking End of Grade/End of Course tests and Final Exams this week.
We will send out a couple of "Summer Updates" edition of the newsletter to stay connected and help prepare our families for a strong start to the 24-25 school year.
We have had a great year at GLOW, and we appreciate the support of our parents in making that possible!
Some important notes for this week...please remember that Thursday is the last day of school and an Early Release Day for students at 1 PM. Also, please note that there is NO YMCA After School Care on Thursday, as we will be preparing our campus for Graduation.
We wish you all a great week and a wonderful summer!
Kate B. Tayloe
Principal

Seventy years ago, the Supreme Court held in Brown v. Board of Education, 347 U.S. 483 (1954), that racial segregation in public schools violates the United States Constitution. The Court recognized that public education is "the very foundation of good citizenship," and Brown's impact on education and society has been the subject of much discussion and debate in our nation's history.
Essay topic: Has the decision in Brown, viewed through the lens of 2024, achieved its purpose of ensuring equal opportunity in public education?
The UNCW Young Writers Workshop: Tuesday, July 9-Saturday, July 13
An intensive four-day program in which young writers will work with graduate students and professionals to develop their writing and communication skills, to strengthen their ability to work collaboratively/in a group setting, and to nourish their capacity for creative, personal expression.
The Young Writers Workshop is modeled after the Fiction, Non-fiction, and Poetry workshops that the Department of Creative Writing offers to undergraduate/graduate students. These workshops consist of submitting a piece of creative writing to our peers, and receiving helpful, constructive, and positive feedback on the piece.
There is a palpable sense of community in these workshops, and everyone strives to ensure that they are fruitful environments in which students may grow as writers, thinkers, and members of the community.
More information about the Young Writers Workshop can be found at: https://uncw.edu/academics/colleges/chssa/departments/writing/community-engagement/young-writers
