Raising Upstanders not Bystanders
Good evening Beck Community,
October is National Bullying Prevent Month
Bullying can be especially challenging during the middle school years, when children are developing socially and emotionally. Information from the National Center for Education Statistics is consistent that middle school-aged students report the highest amount of bullying behaviors. Bullying, whether it’s verbal, social, physical, or online, is not just hurtful—it can have lasting effects. That’s why it’s so important for us to work together to address it.
Last week, students participated in Week of Respect environment. This week, we will recognize Unity Day on Wednesday to promote Kindness, Acceptance & Inclusion. These are key components of preventing bullying. Together, parents & school can help middle school students be UPSTANDERS not BYSTANDERS.
We encourage parents/guardians to attend a 45-minute virtual Parent University information session on Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying (HIB). We will discuss the harassment, intimidation, & bullying definition, ways to report HIB, investigation process, appeal process, and resources.
Sessions will be held at 6:00 PM on:
- October 17, 2024
- October 18, 2024
- October 24, 2024
- November 19, 2024
Limited spots are available. Be sure to click on this link and register for your preferred date. All information sessions will be the same, so parents/guardians do not need to attend multiple sessions.

Announcements
Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraiser
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. According to the American Cancer Society, about 1 in 8 women and 1 in 830 men will get breast cancer in their lifetime. Breast cancer patients and families benefit greatly from fundraising efforts to support them through their diagnosis and treatment. Beck students who are engaging in Community Based Instruction are raising money for METAvivor, a breast cancer support foundation for those with Stage 4 Breast Cancer.
Athletics and Activities
Fall Sports Begin
It's another busy week of games and races as the fall season heads towards playoff season.
All schedules can be found on the Beck Athletics Calendar. Please remember students must ride the bus to and from all games UNLESS a parent/guardian submits a SIGNED RELEASE for the day of the competition.
Afterschool Clubs & Activities
- Animal Welfare Club held its first meeting last week!
- Rainbow Club may have a sponsor. More info TBD.
New clubs are being added so be sure to check the Clubs & Activities slidedeck.
We have had student inquires about Project Invent and Robotics Club. We are seeking advisors for these clubs actively and hope to have them running soon. We know how important they are for students and want to do our best to give them these opportunities!
