LIDO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL'S NEWSLETTER FOR PARENTS

Message from Principal Hernandez

Dear Lido School Families,

As we step into November, I want to take a moment to reflect on the spirit of gratitude that this month brings. November gives us the opportunity to appreciate the wonderful school community that we are building together, and to recognize the dedication, support, and kindness that each of you shares with us here at Lido.

First and foremost, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you for the incredible involvement during our recent Trunk or Treat and Character Day events. The success of these events was truly due to your enthusiasm, participation, and support, making them memorable experiences for our students. Seeing families come together to create a safe, fun, and enriching environment for our children reminds us of the strength of our Lido community.

This month, we will also focus on the theme of gratitude, helping our students recognize and express appreciation for the people and opportunities in their lives. We encourage conversations at home about what it means to be thankful and how gratitude can shape our attitudes and actions. On November 13th, we will celebrate World Kindness Day, a wonderful chance to remind our students that kindness is at the heart of our school’s values. We’ll be organizing activities to inspire students to show empathy, consideration, and generosity toward one another, as they carry on the tradition of being true Lido leaders.

Thank you again for all you do to support our school’s mission and for entrusting us with the growth and learning of your children. Together, we continue to build a nurturing and inclusive community that empowers every child to thrive.

Lido Safe Zone

In order to ensure the safety of all students and maintain a smooth flow of traffic, please review the following procedures:

Bus & Fire Lanes (areas with cones):

Do not park in the fire or bus lane areas.
Do not remove cones to park in the fire lane areas.

Handicap Spots:

Handicapped parking is only for vehicles with proper stickers.
Do not park in the handicap parking area without a proper sticker.

Crosswalk:

Use the crosswalks for the safety of all pedestrians.
Walk with the crossing guard when using Lido Blvd.

Walker Zone:

All parents of walkers must meet their child(ren) at the “Walker Zone”. Parents are asked to park their cars in the parking lot when dropping off or picking up their walkers/car riders.
Children will NOT be dismissed from the walker zone to the parking lot by ANY Lido staff member. This is for the safety of all students, staff and parents.
If you have a child(ren) in multiple grades please pick up your youngest child first.

Bike Riders:

Use the designated bike racks to park bikes.
Walk your bike during arrival and dismissal times for safety.
Remember to wear a helmet and follow all bike safety rules.

Drop Off Lane:

When you come to the drop off lane, be sure to let your child/children exit your car on the curb side (right side). You cannot park and leave your car in the drop off lane. Please do not double park or create two drop lanes, near the drop off lane for the safety of students and staff. If you would like to walk your child/children to school please park your car in the parking lot.

Dismissal:

As a friendly reminder, please be sure to stand in the walker zone during dismissal. Students will not be allowed to walk to the parking lot area without an adult. We also ask that students are not taken off their line without notifying their teacher first for the safety of all students.

Visiting Lido:

Whether you are visiting our school, heading to the nurses office, or need to do an early pick-up, please be sure to go to our security in our main entrances and bring photo ID.

With the safety and well-being of our school community as our top priority, we have security guards onsite to ensure that all members of our community are kept safe. It is crucial that we all follow their directions and guidance in a respectful manner. Your support and cooperation in following these procedures are greatly appreciated. Together, we can create a safe and secure environment for our students, staff, and families.

One of my favorite things to do is read. Here are a few of my new favorite read aloud books. Enjoy!

Peyton Pick the Perfect Pie

Peyton is particular. But she's not picky. Grownups use that word a lot. Picky. Picky. Picky. It's never a good thing. And it's not fair. Peyton likes dogs and cats, scooters and bikes, pools and beaches. And Peyton likes to try new things. She recently mastered long division in math class and loves to practice the saxophone--as long as her adorable dog Mila doesn't howl! But Peyton is particular when it comes to food. Peyton doesn't like it when two foods touch on her plate. Peyton doesn't like green foods. Or orange foods. Or red foods. Peyton doesn't like foods that are gooey or gummy, sticky or slimy, frosted or flaky. And Peyton most definitely doesn't like chunky or lumpy foods.

Thanksgiving is our most universal holiday, beloved by adults and children. But Thanksgiving can also be a challenge for young eaters who struggle with new tastes and new experiences. Peyton is the hero of this food lover's tale and she is determined to confront her fear of new foods by finding a Thanksgiving pie she truly likes, even if it's flaky, lumpy, or chunky.
