Ways that Parents can Prevent the Summer Slide
- Have your child read for at least 20 minutes every day.
- Spend time cooking together
- Listen to an Audiobook on summer car trips
- Read Aloud with your child daily
- Review skills with fun, hands-on activities
- Practice adding and subtracting with cereal.
- Make words with Playdough.
- Have your student keep a summer journal.
Davidson County Public Library
The Summer Reading program officially begins on Monday, June 12th. We will be hosting a food drive for the Salvation Army that begins that day and runs through the duration of Summer Reading. Also, be sure to join us for our Summer Reading Kick-off event, Wild Goose Chase! On Saturday, June 17, we will have a shadow puppet show that starts at 11:00am.

Lexington Public Library - Summer Reading 2023: All Together Now
This year’s summer reading program theme is All Together Now. The Summer Reading Program will begin June 12, 2023 and end on July 22, 2023.
How to Win Prizes:
You will be able to earn prizes by playing bingo!
- Activity Bingo – After registering for the Summer Reading Program, pick up a bingo card at the Circulation Desk. Complete the tasks on the card to get bingo. Each time you get bingo on the card, you win one entry into a prize drawing. Completion of the entire card totals 12 entries into a drawing.
- Book Bingo – After registering for the Summer Reading Program, pick up a blank bingo card at the Circulation Desk. For every book you complete, write the title on the card. Each time you get bingo on the card, you win one entry into a prize drawing. Completion of the entire card totals 12 entries into a drawing.
There is no limit to the amount of bingo cards you can complete. The more you do complete, the better your chances to win a prize! Stop in the library to turn in your completed card and to pick up a new one. Raffle tickets earned can be put toward a youth, teen, or adult prize; or they can be put toward the grand prize.
Lexington YMCA - Summer Camps
Our YMCA summer day camp program will give you peace of mind while you are at work. This program will assure the learning, fun and character-building experienced during the school year continues into the summer months. The activities are designed to keep your child’s mind and body active while nurturing the YMCA’s core values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Summer Day Camp has a number of unique features that make it an outstanding experience for those boys and girls attending. We offer a structured schedule of activities in which every child (ages 6-14) are able to participate. These activities include sports and recreation, arts and crafts, swimming, field trips, academic enrichment and exploring nature. The children also take part in traditional activities appropriate for their respective age levels.
We are excited to be able to offer day camp this summer, beginning Monday, June 10th,2024. We have so many fun things in store!

Lexington Splash Pad and Pool
Everyone knows that summers get hot in Lexington, and Lexington Parks and Recreation has the solution! The Washington Park Splash Pad is 4,000 square feet of awesome water park fun, and also has updated restrooms, shelters, and a playground beside it. Also check out the Lexington Aquatic Park, a competition-size swimming pool with a zero-depth entry and splash features, open throughout the summer!
