News & Announcements
Board Appoints Hampden Principal
Cumberland Valley School District's Board of School Directors on Monday, March 18, 2024, approved Ms. Amber Owen as the incoming principal for our Hampden Elementary School Dragons. She replaces Mr. Todd Franze, who will transition to Green Ridge Elementary School later this school year to lead our Gators.
Ms. Owen comes to CV from Millersburg Area School District, where she currently serves as their elementary school principal.
We would also like to thank Mr. Franze for his exceptional leadership at Hampden and wish Dr. Maria Miller all the best in her new position as she says goodbye to our Gator community in early April.
A Royal Celebration
Dreams do come true, and five of our CV High School seniors were on hand to make the moment even more magical. Seniors Julianne Canete, Aidan Metz, Nick Perry, Zach Runkle, and Carissa Williams, who are part of our spring musical at CV High School, were honored to bring Disney theater magic to a cherished moment for a young princess last week when she learned that her wish to visit Walt Disney World had been granted. Dressed as Disney princes and princesses, our students were honored to join Capital Blue Cross and Make-A-Wish Philadelphia, Delaware, and Susquehanna Valley in helping to make this life-changing wish become a reality. These are moments that will never be forgotten.
Student Artists Showcased as Part of YAM Virtual Exhibit
Congratulations to 10 student artists from Mr. Robb Bomboy's classes at CV High School and CV9 whose artwork was selected to be displayed as part of the 2024 Pennsylvania Art Education Association's Youth Art Month virtual exhibit. Only the most outstanding young artists from across the Commonwealth were selected to be showcased in the exhibit.
Please help us celebrate 9th graders John Dell, Neerja Desai, Alex Gruin, Flora Gurung, and Abdul Oumarou; Sophomores Lolo Heil and Melody Nguyen; and Juniors Alma Gimbel, Jocelyn Palma, and Teagan Russotto.
You are encouraged to check out the slideshow above for pictures of all of their artwork. You may view the full virtual exhibition by clicking here.
Eagle View Students Turn Recording Artists
We're excited to highlight a special music project that was spearheaded by Mr. Caleb Ocker, Band Director at Eagle View Middle School. The project provided our students with real-life experiences as recording artists.
Mr. Ocker composed an original piece, First Snow, that was inspired by a former Eagle View student from Alabama and his excitement for his first-ever snowfall. Mr. Ocker says that the work hopes to evoke feelings of nostalgia – walking through a winter wonderland as a child.
Under the direction of Mr. Ocker, the Eagle View Jazz Band performed the piece while video and film students recorded and later edited the video. Special thanks to Mr. Steve Wilmert, an Eagle View parent, who volunteered his time and talents to help with the audio recording and mixing of this project.
This special project celebrates many of our Portrait of an Eagle competencies, including communication, responsibility, and confidence.
Bel Canto Performs at Hershey Bears Game
Under the direction of Mountain View Middle School Music Teacher and Choral Director Mr. Adam Myers, Bel Canto, our ensemble at Mountain View, took center "ice" at the Hershey Bears game on March 17, 2024, to perform the National Anthem. Congratulations to our student musicians on a wonderful performance! You make us #CVproud!
Hear ye, hear ye! You don’t want to miss this year's Cumberland Valley High School musical, “Anything Goes.” Tickets are on sale NOW at www.cvmusical.com! The show will run from April 10 to April 14, 2024. We hope to see you there!
Portrait of an Eagle: Student Spotlight
Our 5th grade gators in Ms. Sherry Long's class at Green Ridge Elementary School recently used their critical thinking skills to arrange moveable type into the proper order so that they could unveil and read a message. The activity followed a lesson about the printing press. Photo courtesy Ms. Long. They are a Portrait of an Eagle.
