Cartersville Middle School
The Hurricane Watch October 2024
Hello CMS Family,
We hope everyone had a wonderful Fall Break! The first nine weeks of school have flown by, and I want to remind you that the first quarter ends this Friday. Please check Infinite Campus with your student to ensure all work has been turned in.
If you thought the first nine weeks were fast, these next nine will be even faster. It is important that students are here at school every day. Attendance matters and makes a difference in your childβs learning. Being present and punctual is crucial to being a successful learner!
Attendance Reminders:
-
School starts promptly at 8:20 AM. Students must be seated by this time to avoid being marked tardy. To ensure a smooth start to the day, please plan for your child to arrive by 8:15 AM. This allows enough time for them to reach their hallway, visit their locker, and get to class. Thank you for your cooperation!
Accumulating six unexcused tardies will result in an after-school detention. (Please see handbook for valid excuse reasons.)
Parents can write notes to excuse up to four days per semester. (This includes tardies, check-outs, and absences.)
If your child is absent for more than two consecutive days, a medical excuse is required.
Help us by encouraging your child to be present at school every day they are able.
There are so many things we are looking forward to in October:
- Our first weeknight football game
- Chorus concert
- Band concert
- 8th grade field trips
- PBIS Celebration
- Cheer competitions
- Picture Day
- STEAM Time
- Our first Pep Rally (11/1)
I just want to wrap up by saying βThank Youβ to our entire CMS Community. My first nine weeks as principal have been better than I ever imagined. I love being able to work with your child each and every day.
Go Canes,
Mrs. Montgomery

Hello Canes Family! October is Bullying Awareness Month, a crucial time to educate ourselves and our children about the impact of bullying and how to address it. If you suspect your child is being bullied, itβs important to take immediate action. Start by having an open and supportive conversation with your child, encouraging them to share their experiences without fear of judgment. Document any incidents of bullying and report them to your grade level counselor or administrator to ensure they are aware and can take appropriate action. Additionally, teach your child coping strategies, such as staying close to friends, avoiding the bully, and seeking help from trusted adults. Remember, fostering a safe and supportive environment at home can empower your child to handle bullying situations more effectively. Letβs work together to create a bully-free community!
Additionally, we are gearing up for an exciting Red Ribbon Week from October 28-November 1, 2024. Below you will find the theme for each day that week.
