December Calendar
December Keystone Exam Schedule for 11th Grade
11TH GRADE STUDENTS 12/4 TO 12/8
11th grade students who are testing will follow the schedule below. They will report to school each day by 7:45am and will be dismissed at 11:00am. Extended time available to those who need it. 11th grade students will have Open Zoom in the afternoons on 12/4, 12/5, 12/6 and 12/7 only if they need to meet with their teachers for help in any subject areas for extra help.
Keystone Week Schedule for 9th, 10th & 12th Grades
Week of 12/4 to 12/8 for 9th, 10th, 12th Grades - NO IN PERSON SCHOOL
9th, 10th, 12th grade students will be asynchronous in the morning and report to Zoom classes in the afternoon on the dates and times listed below. They will be assigned asynchronous work to complete that will be posted on Schoology. They will attend afternoon Zoom classes for any support they need with the assignments.
Semester Failure Warnings
1st Semester Failure Warnings - Dec 14th
1st Semester Failures are due from teachers on December 14th. Students who are likely to fail the 1st Semester will receive a Failure Warning in the mail from their teachers. Parents are encouraged to contact teachers of the classes their child is failing. Homework Help is available after school Mondays through Thursdays for students who need to make up missed work or need tutoring. The 2nd Quarter/1st Semester ends on Friday, January 26th!
SGA Toys for Tots Drive
Toy Collection
NHS & SGA have kicked off our Toys for Tots drive! Students who bring in a new, unwrapped toy should give it to the teacher where they would like to earn extra credit. Any student who brings in a toy will get credit from a teacher (extra credit points, homework pass - each teacher will decide). These toys will help children in need in Philadelphia to have a great holiday season! The toy bin is located in the school lobby.
21st Century After School Program
A Message from Mr. Howard, After School Program Coordintator
November went by so quickly. We had new clubs start in Yoga and Riss Jewels (Jewelry making). While two new clubs are starting in December in Prevention Meets Fashion on Wednesdays and BB4K (Entrepreneurship and Financial Literacy on Thursdays which will be after Keystone Testing. We will be hosting a special movie and discussion on the film, A Hope That Lights The Way on Monday December 11th. I have put a link for the movie

A Hope That Lights The Way features community leaders and organizations, or “Hope Dealers,” who are committed to implementing and advancing anti-violence and intervention initiatives, and who are working to break the cycle of gun violence by closing equity gaps for our most impacted communities. The goal is to elevate their experiences and strategies for success and inspire others to follow their lead by expanding this critical work to their neighborhoods.
On December 12th: There will be a special workshop for students interested in having healthier relationships with themselves and each other. The workshop is called, "Healthy Relationships." The workshop will be presented by ONESUP at 3pm. Any student interested please contact Mr. Howard to have their name on the list. Ones Up fights economic injustice through a career development program rooted in healing, wellness, and social justice.
We will have six scheduled 21CCLC program days for the month of December (12/11, 12/12, 12/13, 12/14, 12/18, and 12/19) and we hope your child(ren) will after school programming so they can get value and have fun and learn something new.
10th Grade Trip: Friday, December 15th
Lantern Theater Company's "A Christmas Carol"
On Friday, 12/15 our 10th grade students will be attending the Lantern Theater Company's performance of "A Christmas Carol" at The Drake Theater (302 S. Hicks Street, 19102). Transportation will be provided. Students will leave school at 9am and return to school at 12:15pm. They will be dismissed from school upon return. There is no cost to students.
Students who failed Discipline during Q1 will not be permitted on the trip; any student failing discipline currently for Q2 will also not be permitted. They will remain at school for the day.
Holiday Skate Party
PE&T Student Holiday Skate Party: December 20th
All PE&T students are invited to the Holiday Skate Party at the Blue Cross River Rink on Wednesday, 12/20!! School dismissal will be at 11am. The Blue Cross River Rink is located at 101 S Christopher Columbus Blvd (Penn's Landing). The party will be from 12pm - 3pm. Transportation will not be provided so students will need to get there on their own. (Septa: Market Frankford El to 2nd Street and walk across to River Rink). Skate rental and food included. Students must show school ID to attend.
Winter Break
Winter Break Begins December 22nd
Thursday, December 21st will be a special schedule with 11am dismissal and winter break will begin!! Students will be off for Winter Break beginning Friday, December 22nd.
January Return to School
11th Grade students who need to take the Keystone Literature Exam will return in person on Wednesday, January 3rd, Thursday, January 4th and Friday, January 5th for the second window of Keystone Exam testing.
All students will return on Monday, January 8th! Enjoy the holiday season and a nice long break with family and friends.
