Dear Heath Brook Families,

I shared with Superintendent Theriault-Regan and the School Committee my intent to retire from the Tewksbury Public Schools and as Principal of the Heath Brook School, effective June 30, 2025.

I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the children, families, and staff of the Heath Brook neighborhood. The positive energy, enthusiasm, and effort that everyone shows leads to happy and smart children.

I anticipate the Superintendent’s office will soon publish a posting that says the district is seeking a new Principal. I am sure the district office will keep the community updated on the Search Team’s progress.

In the meantime, we have lots of learning and lots of playing to do!

Happy New Year from the Library!

November and December saw students focusing on some basic literacy skills such as sequencing and story elements. Kindergarteners showed us some story elements of their own lives (eg. Who is important in their lives? What was a major life event?) through a writing and drawing activity. First graders showed us they could sequence events as they drew and wrote a comic strip about their favorite holiday traditions, including speech and thought bubbles. We loved seeing the variety of holidays the students celebrate.

We are embarking on our Mock Caldecott unit. All Kindergarten and first grade students in Tewksbury will read the same four books and vote on which they believe deserves to win the 2025 Caldecott Medal. Then on January 27th, we’ll see if our predictions were correct!

Earlier this year first grade students read Library Lion. A musical based on this book has been written and will be performed over the next two weekends at the Calderwood Pavilion in Boston. Take a look!

Also, as I’m sure many of you have heard, there’s a Dog Man movie coming to theatres on January 31st. The Dog Man series is consistently the most popular one in the library, so I bet a lot of your children will ask to go see it.
