Celebrations!
It’s hard to believe the official start to spring is around the corner, and in a few weeks, we’ll be enjoying a week off for Spring Break! With third quarter coming to an end, there is a lot to celebrate!
- Boys and Girls basketball ended their seasons with lots of growth and celebrations.
- We currently have a full team of wrestlers, boys and girls.
- NJHS will be inducting new members in April.
- Two young musicians participated in the Jazz Aspen Festival.
- Our Cardinals are representing and rocking it!
On the last day of the quarter, we have guest speaker Dee Hankins coming to speak to our students.
Transportation Information
Bus Rides, Routes and More
Garfield 16 continues to provide bus transportation to students throughout the area. Students are expected to follow the behavior expectations to ride the bus. Since December, GVMS has been providing additional supervision on all buses for the after school routes in order to support driver and student safety. Throughout the last several months one of the issues we have also been addressing is that of route efficiency. In order to ride the bus, students needed to fill out a bus information sheet. We used these sheets to create our Bus Pass cards that are used with the Bus Hub app. If you have not uploaded this app to your device, please do so using the links.
One of the recent revelations of our review is that there are many more students registered to ride the bus than actually are riding. If your situation has changed, you have moved, or your child may need to ride a different route, please contact Stephanie Hart in Transportation.

Operations Secretary
Monitoring our bus routes, who is riding and where they are is critical to the safety and efficiency of our transportation system. Beginning on March 11th, all secondary students in grades 6-12 must present their bus pass in order to ride the bus. NO PASS/NO RIDE will begin on March 11. If your child has misplaced their bus pass, they need to contact the office staff at school to secure a new pass. Please note that after March 11th, there will be a fee for replacement passes:
~ First Replacement: Free
~ Second Replacement: $3
~ Third Replacement: $5
~ Fourth Replacement: $7
~ Fifth Replacement: $10
Dress Code Reminders
As the weather gets warmer, please remember to continue and follow the dress code. GVMS encourages students to take pride in their attire as it relates to the school setting. Board policy states that attire be safe and does not distract from or disrupt the educational process. Students in our school must follow these procedures:
Hats (including head coverings, bandanas, and doo rags) and sunglasses may not be worn during the educational day.
Mesh clothing, tank tops (smaller than 2” in strap width or the width of your school ID card), halter or spandex tops, spaghetti strap tops, muscle shirts (shirts with large open arm holes), and bare midriffs may not be worn.
Shorts, dresses, mini skirts, or similar clothing shall be of an appropriate length and no shorter than mid thigh.
Students who wear pants with holes in them must be appropriate. Holes must be lower than 3” above the knee.
Clothing, jewelry or any other types of accessories must be free of messages or symbols that advertise alcohol, drugs, tobacco, sex, death, suicide, gangs, or negative and derogatory messages.
Students who are not properly dressed will be sent to the office in order to make arrangements for more appropriate clothing. Students who continually disregard the dress code will be placed in our school suspension/detention room.
Dress code is subject to school administration approval and anything not in the handbook is the administration’s discretion if deemed not appropriate.

Keep Learning the Focus!
With the arrival of spring, activities outside, warm weather and dreams of summer, it is important that we remember why we are in school. Our big why is learning! Learning takes work. Teachers work hard to prepare quality and relevant learning experiences for your children. In turn, your children work hard in school to learn from the experiences provided. Often learning requires practice. This includes homework, math problems and reading. Please remind your child that they need to keep their focus throughout the spring. That means working hard in school and following up with work completion.
Did you know that your child should be reading for at least 30-60 each day at home? Yep, that is the number one thing they can be doing to be successful!
We offer support for learning and grades each week in TAR-Tardy, Attendance, Recovery. Three to Five teachers and volunteers are in the library on Tuesday and Thursday from 4:05-6:05 to support your child's success. Contact the school to learn more.
