Over the past year, our District has continued to integrate new software and technology tools into the classroom to address the challenges of the pandemic. Issue 68 - the renewal levy for Strongsville City Schools on the November ballot - helps continue to provide our students with up-to-date technology and learning opportunities for all students.

SHS STUDENTS COMPETE IN UNIFIED SPORTS FLAG FOOTBALL COMPETITION
This week, SHS students traveled to John Marshall High School for a friendly flag football competition with several local high schools. The Unified Sports event brought students with disabilities together with their typical peers, as they competed together on the field. The goal of Unified Sports is to empower individuals with and without disabilities to engage through the power of sports and foster social inclusion through shared sports training and competition experiences. Strongsville’s team went a perfect 4-0 and are looking forward to additional sports competitions throughout the year!

SHS SPORTS MANAGEMENT CLASS CREATES SERPENTINI CHEVROLET ADVERTISEMENT
Mr. Bent’s SHS Sports Management class had the opportunity to develop a commercial for SCS District partner Serpentini Chevrolet. Several students in the class starred in the thirty second spot which showcased our fall sports student-athletes. The class developed the advertisement from start to finish, from initial concept and ideas through post-production editing. Click HERE to see the finished thirty second advertisement!
THE RETURN OF “GREET & TREAT” - WED. 10/27
The Strongsville City Schools “Greet & Treat” event returns this fall and will be held outdoors at Strongsville High School on Wednesday, October 27 from 5:00pm - 6:30pm. Dress up in your best Halloween costume and collect candy and treats in an outdoor, family-friendly atmosphere at Pat Catan Stadium. We will also be accepting donations of non-perishable items for the Strongsville Food Bank that evening. We hope to see lots of families at this year’s “Greet & Treat” on October 27!
MUSTANG SPOTLIGHT - MR. JOSH HANES, INTERVENTION SPECIALIST AT MURASKI ELEMENTARY
Mr. Josh Hanes is an Intervention Specialist at Muraski Elementary School. Mr. Hanes has been working in our District for four years and has also spent time working with students at Whitney Elementary School. His undergraduate degree is from Edinboro University and he is currently pursuing his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership.
“Working with the individual stakeholder of Strongsville has been rewarding and I feel as though I have developed many positive relationships with parents, students, community members, and Strongsville staff. Our students are kind, respectful, and want to grow as lifelong learners. Our staff is amazing and always very supportive,” said Mr. Hanes.
“As an Intervention Specialist, I am not bound to the classroom, but instead to student growth. I am able to work with multiple grade levels and content areas. Working in Strongsville has been a great experience and I hope to continue my career contributing to the success of our fantastic students and community!”

ATHLETIC BOOSTERS CAR RAFFLE - WIN A 2022 CHEVY TRAILBLAZER LS AWD!
The Strongsville Athletic Boosters are selling raffle tickets to win a 2022 Chevy Trailblazer LS AWD donated by Serpentini Chevrolet of Strongsville. The vehicle is on display in front of the SCS bus lot on Pearl Road. Tickets may be purchased for $20 each. All proceeds benefit Strongsville Athletics. ‘RIGHT AT SCHOOL’ TO OFFER BEFORE- & AFTER-SCHOOL CARE IN OUR DISTRICT FOR 2021-22
Our District is excited to announce a partnership agreement with the nationally recognized school enrichment provider, Right At School, to provide before- and after-school care for elementary students for the 2021-22 school year. Right at School will be offering before- and after-school care every weekday (Monday-Friday) at each of the elementary school buildings in our District. Strongsville Basketball League Tryouts (Sun. 10/3)
Tryouts for the Strongsville Basketball League will be held on Sunday, October 3 for boys and girls in grades 3-6. Tryouts will be held at Strongsville High School at the following times:
5pm - 6pm / 3rd Grade + 4th Grade (Boys and Girls)
6pm - 7pm / 5th Grade (Boys and Girls)
7pm - 8pm / 6th Grade (Boys and Girls)
A mandatory parent meeting will be held in the SHS cafeteria at 4:45pm. Tryouts will be closed to parents. OHSAA COVID-19 guidelines will be followed during the tryouts. Click HERE for the event flyer and additional information.
Girl Scouts Dance Party (Thu. 10/7)
Students in grades K-3 are invited to join the Girl Scouts at an “Animal Dance Party” on Thursday, October 7 from 6-7pm at the Strongsville Library (18700 Westwood Dr.). Click HERE for your FREE ticket to this event!
Halloween at Safety Town (Sat. 10/9) Kindergarten and 1st grade students and their families are invited to Halloween trick-or-treat fun at Strongsville Safety Town, presented by the Rotary Club of Strongsville and the Strongsville Police. Don’t miss your chance to participate in two great youth programs at the Strongsville Ehrnfelt Recreation Center. “Mad Science Sensational Senses” explores the wonderful world of science and runs from September 29 - November 3. Crayola’s “Imagine Arts Academy Artblazers” gives students a chance to unleash their creativity with a number of different art techniques. Two upcoming sessions are available. School Crossing Guards Wanted
The Strongsville Police Department is now hiring school crossing guards. Interested individuals must be at least 18 years of age, of good moral character, and have the ability to remain outdoors in all types of weather conditions for up to one (1) hour. Strongsville Community Theatre - “A Tribute to Broadway” (Oct. 29-30)
Join the Strongsville Community Theatre’s performance of “A Tribute to Broadway” on Friday, October 29 & Saturday, October 30 at the Strongsville Recreation and Senior Center (18100 Royalton Rd.). English as a Second Language. IN PERSON Thursdays & Fridays from 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Aspire Greater Cleveland is once again teaching IN-PERSON classes to help non-native speakers learn English and validate their skills. Students must attend an ESOL/Citizenship orientation session before beginning ESOL or citizenship classes. Computer Classes Cuyahoga County Public Library offers computer classes for beginners to advanced. Classes are currently being held VIRTUALLY using the program Screenleap which requires a web browser and an internet connection. There is no additional software to download. Google Chrome is the recommended browser. A valid email address is required for registration. Registrants will receive an email with a link to join the class at least an hour before the start time. Take & Make At Home Crafts! Stop into the Strongsville Branch to see what the current take it and make it craft of the month is for All Ages. Each month the Youth, Teen, and Adult Departments are offering free craft kits to take home while supplies last.
Fall Into Health. Tuesday and Wednesdays, October 5th, 6th, 12th, & 13th / 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. CSU nursing students along with licensed RN will provide health screenings, one-on-one chronic disease education and general health education with the focus being overall health and wellness.
Young at Heart Virtual Book Discussion. Tuesday, October 5th / 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. BOTH VIRTUAL & IN-PERSON. A book club for adults who love Children's and Teen books. Cricut Basics. Tuesday, October 5th / 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. Learn the basics of the Cricut Design Space in this VIRTUAL class! We will review the simple uses of the software and how to make a basic design. As a hands-on component, participants will get to create a tote bag with an iron on vinyl quote for fall. Participants will follow along with the instructor virtually from start to finish. **Must have an iron or heat press at home to complete the hands-on project** This class will be held virtually using Zoom, no download is required. Participants will be contacted by staff with a meeting link to access the class. Materials for this program will be provided by the library for participants to follow along at home.** Craft kits will vary from one to another, they will not be exactly the same.
Discuss & Design: Millennial Book Discussion. Wednesday, October 6th / 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. Attention millennials we're going virtual! Are you looking for something fun and different to do with your friends? How about a book club with a twist. We meet bimonthly, alternating between children's, teen, and adult books. We discuss the assigned book and design something that complements the title, subject, or book cover. Maker kits will be available as a part of this program and can be mailed to a branch near you for pick up! Our next discussion will be on the book Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare. Virtual Studio Orientation. Saturday, October 9th from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. or Monday, October 11th from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. Have you ever thought about recording your own music, making a video, digitizing memories and more? The Strongsville Branch Library is home to both Audio and Video Recording studios that can help you do just that! You must go through an orientation in order to use the spaces. These orientations will be held VIRTUALLY ONLY. Patrons 11 & up can participate in the orientation and must turn in the User Agreement form at the branch in order for the orientation to count.
