Summer Reading
Summertime is a time to slow down the pace, explore new places, and enjoy some summer fun! It’s a time to go to the playground, the pool, the shore, or the mountains…check out zoos, museums, and aquariums, and spend time relaxing with family and friends. In addition to these wonderful experiences, we ask that you take time to support your child’s on-going growth as a reader, writer, mathematician, scientist, thinker, and lifelong learner. In order to assist you, our GVSD Elementary Reading Specialist Team has put together a Summer Reading Padlet to support you and your child over the summer. This digital Padlet can be accessed by clicking HERE. On it you will find many resources for suggested book titles, GVSD digital reading resources and books, tips for supporting your child’s reading at home, as well as community-based programs happening this summer that your child may wish to participate in this summer if they choose to do so.
Each student entering grades 1st through 5th is encouraged to read over the summer. Linked within the Padlet, you will find the “50 Days of Summer Reading Challenge.” It is our hope that all students will complete his/her 50 Days of Summer Reading Challenge chart and return it to their teacher the first week of school. Your continued support in promoting literacy skills is especially critical during the elementary years. We hope that you and your child have a wonderful time enjoying many great books this summer!
Happy Reading!
BSES School Supplies 2023-2024
While there are many weeks of summer left, some families may want to get a jump start on purchasing school supplies. If you ordered supplies through the BSES HSA, orders will be arriving in mid-August.
Breakfast & Lunch
Your child has the ability to purchase breakfast and/or lunch each day. Please log into My School Bucks by clicking here to set up your child's account. You will need their school ID (located in ALMA) when creating their account. It's a great idea to have your child practice their school ID ahead of their first time buying, as they will use a keypad in the cafeteria that looks like this to enter their ID.
Families of students facing financial hardships can register and complete an application for free or reduced lunch at www.schoolcafe.com or contact Charlene Price for a paper application: pricec@garnetvalley.org.
Please click HERE for the menus.
Transportation Information
The GV Transportation email address is transoffice@garnetvalley.org.

Some families choose to drop off and/or pick up their children from school. We will share a detailed map for drop off/pick up along with times in August.

ATTENTION ALL RISING 4TH GRADE STUDENTS
Attention All Students Entering 4th Grade! Have you ever wanted to play an instrument? Join the Band or Orchestra this year and give it a try! The #1 reason students play an instrument is because it is FUN! But also because playing an instrument teaches responsibility, mental discipline, teamwork, self-esteem, and above all it fosters an enjoyment and lifelong appreciation for music. Sign up HERE. Or, for more information about the program, download the BSES Band & Orchestra sign-up packet that was sent home in the spring. Please contact Mr. VonDerStuck with any questions at vonderj@garnetvalley.org.
