GVMS Weekly Update

Weekly Update
We would like to thank everyone who contributed to making this an exceptional first week of school. We have genuinely enjoyed welcoming our students back, and our students have been amazing at learning their schedules, routines, and our building wide expectations.
We continue to embrace our school mantra: "Jags are safe, respectful, responsible, and compassionate." All of our rules and expectations connect to these four principles. During our morning announcements, our administrative team introduced these rules and expectations to our students. During advisory periods, teachers reiterated this message, and students discussed how to act in "safe, respectful, responsible, and compassionate" ways in various school settings like the classroom, hallway, bathroom, and cafeteria. Next week, we will continue reinforcing these principles by reviewing the student discipline manual and our digital citizenship expectations.
Is your child ready for the upcoming event at GVMS on September 17th? For those wondering, “What event?” we’re excited to celebrate Constitution Day! In addition to bringing their energy for Mr. Constitution himself, we encourage students to dress in their favorite red, white, and blue attire. Our social studies teacher will provide more details on this fantastic day.
Lastly, we want to thank everyone who attended our Family Information Night on August 21st. It was extremely well attended and helped all our students feel safe and supported by becoming familiar with their schedule before the first day of school. We believe this event contributed to a smooth start to the school year.
Should you have any questions about your child’s courses, we encourage you to review the teacher’s Schoology pages, which contain introductory information, course descriptions, and class expectations. We look forward to welcoming the community back to GVMS for our Fall Conferences in November.
Sincerely,
Dr. Lisa Stenz, Principal
Mr. Rick Martin, Assistant Principal
Dr. Gerry Weinhardt, Assistant Principal
Reconfiguration of Our Counselor Department
As a reminder, our counselors are now grade-based. Below, you will find the counselor assigned to each class cohort:
6th Grade: Mr. Matt Bradshaw
7th Grade: Mrs. Marisa Mahon
8th Grade: Ms. Wendy Xanthopoulos
School Counselor: Mrs. Christy Francart
Although Mrs. Francart isn't assigned a specific grade, she will focus on delivering targeted, short-term, small-group interventions throughout the school year. This will allow us to expand and improve upon the various MTSS supports we offer our students.
We sincerely appreciate your trust and support as we implement these positive changes. Our commitment to your child’s well-being remains our top priority. We are confident that this reconfiguration will lead to stronger relationships and better support for all.
