October Newsletter
Principal's Message
We're very exited to share with you all of the things our Wildcats have been up to during the month of November as well as our fun upcoming December events.
Last month we hosted our Scholastic Book Fair as well as Family Literacy Night! We've also started a PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) here on campus. We hosted a visit from UCDavis and had several people recognized at the site and district level.
We hope everyone is staying warm as the weather starts to get colder. Make sure your students come to school with appropriate clothing so they can still enjoy recess even when it's chilly!
We hope everyone has a fabulous winter break and holiday season. We can't wait to see you back in January!

Jog-a-Thon Winners
Our Jog-a-Thon was a huge success! We raised over $4,000, with our big earners being 2nd grader Karter who raised $425 and 4th grader Adyson who raised $230! Both students and their families received a turkey!
After counting laps, our top runners in the lower grades were Erik and Novan in Mrs. Murray's class with 21 laps each and Trevon and Michael in Mr. Cariker's class with 26 laps each!
Great job, Wildcats!
Adyson and her family receiving their turkey. She was our #2 earner for our fundraiser. Way to go, Adyson!
Lunch with the Principal
Does your child want to have lunch with the principal?
Remind your student(s) that they can put their PAWS tickets into the jug in the Library for a chance to win. At the end of the month, Principal Evers will draw names and those students get to have lunch with their peers and our principal. They even get a special treat!
College and Career Readiness
UCDavis visits Cedar Lane!
In October, the Early Academic Outreach Program of UC Davis advisors provided a workshop for 6th grade students to promote college as an attainable goal, providing knowledge about college and the benefits and options available after high school. Students completed College Bingo and learned about the other real life experiences college has to offer.
Hello, Cedar Lane families! This is Miss Cassie in the library, giving you an update on what's happening around here.
We just finished our annual Book Fair, with over $7,000 in sales! The cut we get from Scholastic will go towards new books for our library, and for the vending machine in the cafeteria. We were even able to get some of the newest books from some of the kids' favorite genres directly from the Book Fair itself, and we'll be getting those on our library shelves as soon as possible!
Next month, we'll do our second annual Santa Shop, spearheaded this year by our newly formed PTO! It's a ton of work to run a Santa Shop, so I'm extremely grateful for the amazing parent volunteers we have to help run it this year, as it will save me from many new gray hairs. And the kids love having the chance to shop for their families for Christmas and other winter holidays, so we're very excited to be able to host this holiday shop for them again.
Lastly, start reminding your students now about our third annual Young Authors and Illustrators competition! Kids will be able to begin submitting their original stories, poems, and artwork as soon as we come back from winter break, with the deadline for entries being on Friday, February 28, 2025. We love to see our students' talents and creativity shine, and we encourage everyone to participate!
Enjoy this magical time of year, and we'll see you at the library!
The holidays are right around the corner and your students would LOVE to buy gifts for family and friends! This will be our second year with the Santa Shop and last year was wildly successful!
From December 10-12, students can shop in the library for gifts. This is a great opportunity to teach your child about empathy, selflessness, and money management!
Your child can bring cash to spend or you can sign up on the link below to purchase "gift certificates" that the students can spend like cash!
Family Literacy Night
During our Scholastic Book Fair, we held our annual Family Literacy Night! Prior to the event, an informational meeting was held about our newly developing PTO. After the meeting, students and families were invited to the library to shop the book fair and visit surrounding classrooms to participate in fun literacy activities.
This event was a great opportunity for families to engage with their students and show the importance of the home-school connection. The more support your child receives from you at home, the more successful they will be at school!
Student and Staff Recognitions
Congratulations to 2nd grader, Elida Azatyan and one of our amazing 6th grade teachers. Ms. Gladden! They were recognized at the November board meeting!
Congratulations Wildcats!
Elida Azatyan with her Positive Impact Award!
So proud of everyone who was nominated!
