CMSS will be participating in The Great Kindness Challenge with schools all over the nation. During the week of January 22-31, 2020, each student will receive a kindness checklist with 50 ways to be kind. Along with working on the checklist, there will be some activities at school to help spread kindness. Students are invited to participate in dress up days to show that they want to spread kindness. We hope your child can participate with the challenge and spread kindness every day.

Dress Up Days:

• Monday, January 27: Hats off to Kindness - Wear a hat
• Tuesday, January 28: Powered by Kindness - Dress in superhero attire
• Wednesday, January 29: We are all tied together by Kindness - Wear ties and bows
• Thursday, January 30: We are kind Panthers - Wear Panther colors to show school spirit
• Friday, January 31: Warm up to Kindness - Wear Pajamas for National Hot Chocolate Day!

School dress code applies to all days-Please remember to check the appropriateness of your child’s dress for these days.

Our Service Learning Club is collecting new pairs of socks for local charities around Cabot. Students who donate a pair of socks will receive a paper pair of socks to decorate and hang in our hallways! We can't wait to see which hallway (5th or 6th) will be decorated with the most socks?!

Time: 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Location: Cabot High School Loft & Media Center

Parents of students in grades 6-12 are invited to attend. They will receive an overview of the Pre-AP/AP Program. They will also be provided valuable information regarding course selection, college applications, scholarship opportunities, high-stakes exam preparation, and other pertinent information about the Pre-AP/AP Program.

Parents may contact Aaron Randolph, Director of Gifted and AP Programs, at 843-3363 for additional information.

6th grade students who are interested in participating in band next year as an elective for 7th grade are encouraged to stay after school on Monday, February 3rd or Thursday, February 6th. Students will try each instrument that is offered in 7th grade band. Pizza will be provided for all participants. Check your child's backpack on Wednesday for a permission slip and more details!

The Cabot Panther Foundation will host its Annual Father Daughter Ball on Saturday, February 22nd at Cabot High School. Tickets will go on sale Wednesday, January 15th and are $20 per person. See the flier below for more information.

Does your child need some help with their homework or a quiet place to study before school? Our Homework Room is open every morning beginning at 7:30 in the GT Room. At least one math and one literacy teacher are available each morning in the Homework Room to help students with assignments.

CMSS will be conducting BMI screenings for all 6th grade students on Tuesday, February 18th. Scoliosis screenings will also be conducted on that day for all female 6th grade students. If you object to your child being screened for BMI and/or Scoliosis, parents will need to provide written documentation stating their objection before or on the day of the screenings.

The following students were recognized on Friday, January 24th as our R.E.A.L. Panthers of the Week. Each team selects one student per week that has gone above and beyond in demonstrating the characteristic traits associated with the R.E.A.L. Panther Pledge. Congratulations!

CMSS Builder's Club is collecting pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House located at Arkansas Children's Hospital through April 30th. Students can drop off their donations with their Advisory Teacher. Thanks for supporting this worthy cause!

The Advisory Class that buys the most yearbooks will win a Popcorn and Movie Party thanks to the Yearbook Club!

Box Tops for Education is still going strong and each box top counts as cash for CMSS! Since 1996, General Mills has donated over $913 million to schools just like CMSS.

You can continue to send in your Box Tops with your student OR you can download the Box Top App and choose CMSS at your school. Then, simply scan your grocery receipt and CMSS will be credited for each eligible item you purchased.

That's Right! Every student can enjoy a free breakfast each morning. Research has shown that children who eat breakfast are more likely to focus and perform better in the classroom.

Lunch prices will remain the same as last year:

• Elementary lunch: $2.40
• Secondary lunch $2.60
• Reduced lunch $0.40

If you are a family that is facing financial hardships, the most important thing you can do is to let us know. There is no deadline to apply for free and reduced meals. We will be more than happy to help you fill out the paperwork or apply online. If you don’t qualify for that program, they are still willing and able to provide assistance as needed. For any questions, please contact the Food Service Director, Erin Wilkes at 501-843-3363.

At the Cabot School District, “It’s about KIDS,” and your student could be part of the long history of academic excellence even if you don’t live in the district. CPS is currently accepting School Choice applications for the 2020-20201 school year. Applications should be turned into the Central Administrative Offices, located at 602 N. For pick up and drop off, cars will enter Panther Trail and turn around at the designated turn around spot, just past the water tower. Cars must use the "Merge" lane to create 1 lane of traffic heading toward Kerr Station Road. Panther Trail is a city street and must remain open for through traffic. Cars will turn into the CMSS driveway from Panther Trail.

Avoid dropping off/picking up your student in the parking lots. This creates traffic that could result in an injury to our students and staff. Parking lots are reserved for those parking and entering the building.

Morning Drop Off

• Drop off is 1 lane. Use the lane closest to the building.
• Please pull as far forward as possible when dropping off your student. This allows more students to exit the cars and speeds up the drop off line.
• Students will enter the building through the front doors.

Afternoon Pick Up

• Pick up is 2 lanes after entering the CMSS driveway. Cars must use the "Merge" lane to create 1 lane of traffic heading toward Kerr Station Road. Panther Trail is a city street and must remain open for through traffic.
• Present your placard to the caller as you approach the beginning of the car line.
• Students will listen for their name and go to the number called with their name.
• Cars will pull up to the number called. (#1 is near the 6th grade hall/closest to the Kerr Station exit/#10 is near the 5th grade hall/closest to the caller).
• Students will wait until the vehicle comes to a complete stop to load their car.
