Week of September 16th
PTO & CLUB NIGHT - THIS WEEK
SMS Families are invited to attend our SMS Family night Monday, September 16th! A PTO meeting will kick off the night from 6-6:30 p.m. The Club Night will begin at 6:30! Be sure to stop by to learn how to get involved in one of our clubs (Seaperch, Robotics, National Junior Honors Society, Caring & Sharing, Drama, Chess, Quiz bowl, and more!). Each club sponsor will be present at the meeting with information regarding their group. There will also be other stations set up for families to check out. We hope to see you there!
EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION
Click on the link below to fill out a Google Form about a staff member at SMS that you want to give a shout out to.
📚 BOOK FAIR 📚
SMS Book Fair will be open from September 18th - September 25th! Be sure to stop by the Book Fair during Parent Teacher Conferences to shop, play games, and participate in the cake walk! Students can pay with cash, check, card, and apple pay. Families can also set up an eWallet. This allows parents to upload money onto Scholastic's website so that students do not have to carry cash or card to school. More information about setting up an eWallet is posted below. See you there!
RAZORBACK MONDAYS
Every Monday of this year, staff at SMS will be wearing our Razorback red. Students are welcome to join in the fun!
CKH THEME OF THE MONTH - EMPATHY
What is empathy?
Empathy is the ability to be aware of, understand, and be sensitive to another person's feelings. Instead of focusing on how these feelings impact ourselves, empathy motivates us to focus on others and respond with care and compassion.
Why focus on empathy?
- Empathy strengthens communities. Empathy helps students strengthen their relationships with classmates, other students, and adults at school, and at home.
Empathy in Action
- Put aside judgement. Take a pause, and rather than express conclusions about a situation bsed on what you see, step back and consider other things you may still need to know or understand.
VOLUNTEERING AT SMS
We appreciate all of our families that choose to volunteer at SMS. We are able to do more for our students because we have your help! There is a new process for volunteering at SMS that requires two steps. This process is not required for a parent attending a field trip, but it is if they are asked to chaperone.
Step 1: The volunteer must have an Arkansas State Police Volunteer background check.
The form linked here must be completed, notarized, and accompanied with an $11.00 payment to Sheridan Schools, preferably by check. The form and money can be dropped off at the front office. Background checks are good for 5 years.
Step 2: The volunteer must complete a child maltreatment check through DHS.
This step can be completed on the link posted below. The cost is $11.00 and can be submitted electronically on their website.
PICTURE DAY SUCCESS
Thank you to our parent volunteers that helped make picture day successful!
