Message from Principal Collins
Hello Evergreen Families,
I would like to thank you all one more time for participating in the cookie dough fundraiser. The items your child sold can be picked up on Wednesday, Oct. 23rd between 12:30 pm and 3:30 pm. On Oct. 28th, our 8th-grade scholars will take the PSAT. The PSAT helps scholars become more comfortable with the SAT and ACT tests, often required for college admission. These tests also provide opportunities to get financial aid and are offered at no cost to FWPS scholars. On the test date, students are encouraged to get plenty of rest, eat a balanced breakfast, and plan to arrive at school on time. The testing will begin promptly at 8:00 am. If you have questions, please feel free to contact me or your child’s teacher.
Great Shake Out- As you already know, we conduct monthly safety/emergency drills on campus. Each year in October, we have the “Great Shake Out”, which is to practice and prepare for an earthquake. The Great Shake Out is the world’s largest Earthquake drill! Each year in October, participants all over the world use this opportunity to practice what they would do in case an earthquake occurred suddenly: Drop, Cover, and Hold On! Evergreen practiced our earthquake drill on October 17, 2024, at 9:40 am. Washington is an earthquake and tsunami country – either of these hazards could strike at any time. The Great Shake Out is the perfect annual opportunity to learn about these hazards, practice how to protect yourself from earthquakes and tsunamis, and take action to get prepared for disasters, so they won’t impact you as much when they occur.
As I’ve said before, it has been a busy start to the year here at Evergreen. Our students and teachers are settling into their schedules and developing their daily routines and Fall sports are almost over. We hope everyone will plan to join us next month for our student-led conferences Nov. 6th-8th. This will be an opportunity for teachers and families to connect about student progress and make adjustments while there is still plenty of time left in the semester. Information for setting appointments for conferences has gone out to families. I’m looking forward to seeing all of you during the conferences.
The days and times for our student-led conferences are:
- Wednesday Nov 6th Normal School Day then 3:30 PM-5:30 PM.
- Thursday Nov 7th No School: 10:30 AM-12:00 PM and 3:00 PM-7:00 PM.
- Friday Nov 8th No School 7:00 AM-10:30 AM.
October is Bullying Prevention Month
Bullying is an action taken by one or more children with the deliberate intention of hurting or abusing another child. Bullying can take one of many forms: verbal, emotional, sexual, sexist, physical, cyber (including social websites, mobile phones, text messages, photographs, and email), race and religion, cultural, homophobic, special educational needs, and disability. We are committed to providing a caring, friendly, and safe environment for all our Students. We encourage open communication at school by taking time to talk to students about their day, listening actively, and providing a safe space for them to express their thoughts and concerns. All incidents will be treated seriously and appropriate action will be taken. Your student can fill out an incident report at any time or report it to an adult. If a student reports concerns at home please reach out to me so I can address the concerns immediately. We appreciate your continued partnership and support. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please feel free to contact me.
We truly appreciate your ongoing support and participation in school activities and events. Together, we can ensure that your child’s educational journey is filled with positive experiences and growth.
In partnership,
Mrs. Collins
