SMS WEEKLY UPDATE
September 2nd - 6th, 2024
Greetings!
We had a great first week of school here at Stevenson! We are spending the first two weeks focusing on building relationships, reviewing expectations, and establishing norms in our classrooms. We're getting used to our routines and procedures at SMS, like lunch and passing time. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we all get settled into the year! It's certainly an exciting time!
We're excited about a new year! Read on for updates!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kasper
Assistant Principal
Who's Mrs. Kasper?
You may have heard the unfamiliar name "Mrs. Kasper" thrown around and thought, "Who's that?!"
It's me, the assistant principal, Ms. Phillips!
I got married over the summer and am now officially Mrs. Kasper. We had a small and lovely wedding ceremony with our family on July 27th. I'm excited about our future and my new larger family!
Here are my husband Adam and I on our big day with our kids: Maegan (20), Isaac (18), Lillian (7), and Eleanora (4).
And don't worry...I'll still respond to Ms. Phillips!

Arrival and Dismissal at SMS
As you may have discovered this past week, arrival and dismissal is a busy time at Stevenson Middle School! In order to ensure the safety of our students, families, and employees during this time, please be sure to follow these guidelines:
- Drive all the way around the building to drop off and pick up your student (see the picture below)
- Pull all the way up in the drop-off/pick-up line, and have your student ready to get out of the car quickly. This prevents delays and traffic backups.
- Do not drop your student off in Palmer Road.
- Cross Palmer Road at designated crosswalks ONLY.
- Because of dismissal is a high-traffic time, parents will not be able to come in to excuse students after 2:20 pm. If you need to pick your child up early, please plan to come before that time.
Thank you for your understanding!
Chromebook Updates
This school year, students will not receive individual Chromebook devices. Instead, each teacher will have a classroom set of computers available for students to use during lessons. This change from previous years is designed to help students stay focused in the classroom and create a more distraction-free learning environment.
We believe this new approach will support better learning outcomes and help maintain a productive atmosphere in our classrooms.
Thank you for your support and understanding.
Clubs and Activities
Please take a moment to review what's offered, and have you child(ren) sign up for at least one club, activity, or sport that you are interested in on the form below.
Being involved in school often leads to a stronger sense of belonging and higher student achievement. Not to mention, it's a lot of fun!
Student Lighthouse
For all 7th and 8th grade students: It's time to apply for SMS Lighthouse! This team is basically our school student council. If you are interested in being a member, you MUST fill out an application, which can also be found on the student hub. This application does NOT guarantee you a spot on the team. A small number of those who apply will be chosen. Applications are due on Friday, September 13. If you are chosen to be a part of the team, you will be notified through email by Friday, September 20. 6th graders will be able to apply in November.
Please check out the attached presentation to learn more about this team! If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Oberski in room 110, or Mrs. Vasiloff-Ebbitt in the library.
