West Point El. Parent Update
Week of August 25, 2024
Dear West Point Families,
We hope your students enjoyed the first full week of school. They learned routines and school expectations, made new friends, and jumped into this year's learning. We are excited for another fun week with them! Please remember that the following Monday, September 2, is Labor Day, and there will be no school that day.
We would like to introduce you to this year's Community Council. We did not have enough applicants to necessitate an election. This year's WPE Community Council members are listed below. Our first meeting of the year will be Wednesday, September 18 at 5:30 p.m. in our Conference Room.
- Parents: Erica Garner, Christie Maxfield, Emily Montoya, and Jason Poland
- School Staff: Marjorie Conrad, principal; Kristin Downs, teacher
Here are three things to know about for the coming week.
- Students are encouraged to wear their Disney ears and school colors/t-shirts every Friday for Spirit Week.
- We have made a slight change to our morning breakfast procedures. Students will now enter through the doors at the front of the school and will then go to the lunchroom for breakfast. They will still exit the side door when they are finished eating so they can line up with their classmates. Please make sure your student is aware of this change.
- We are asking for your support with your student's attendance and daily home reading this year. Students will have an opportunity to earn a brag tag in each of these areas each month, starting in September. Please help your students establish these habits now so they can be successful in earning their brag tags.
Every day is a great day to be a Wildcat!
Sincerely,
Marjorie Conrad and Christie Bouy
Principal and Assistant Principal, West Point Elementary

School Fundraiser
Our World's Finest Chocolate fundraiser is coming September 9 - September 20! Thank you for being such great supporters of our fundraisers. By limiting requests for donations for school supplies and field trips and by providing school t-shirts for all of our students, we hope we have made it easier for our families to support our school and our PTA fundraisers.
The money from this school fundraiser will be used to:
- purchase student rewards, incentives, classroom reward parties, brag tags, and enrichment opportunities as part of our positive behavior plan
- support and show appreciation for our teachers
- provide additional resources for our school (i.e., recess equipment, specialized supplies for classrooms)
Emergency Evacuation Procedures
This past week we held our first fire drill. We would like to make sure all our parents are aware of West Point Elementary's procedures in the event of an emergency evacuation.
- Depending o the situation, we will evacuate 1) to the field behind the school or 2) to the LDS Church at 300 N 3500 W in West Point.
- Students will wait in line with their teachers.
- The school has a copy of your emergency contacts, which are the people who have permission to pick up your student in an emergency. (Any updates to the emergency contact list need to be made in writing. You can stop by the office or ask to have the form sent home which you would then update, sign, and return.)
- Parents/guardians/emergency contacts will check out students at the front of the lines at a centralized command center. They will fill out a reunification form and show ID. (A copy of this form has been included below for your reference.)
- Once permission and ID have been verified, a runner will get your student and bring your student to you.
- Please remember that an orderly evacuation is the best way to insure everyone's safety in the fastest and most efficient way possible.
Experience the Magic
Earning Our Training Ears
Students earned their "training ears" this week as they learned how to create safe schools and a culture of belonging for all students. Students are encouraged to wear their Disney ears every Friday for Spirit Day along with their school t-shirts or school colors (blue and yellow). We are placing our order this week for our new school t-shirts and will let you know when they arrive. You can view a copy of the district's Belonging and Safe Schools presentation on our school's webpage. The link is on the far left, just below the large gallery picture.
M is for MANNERS
For our first two weeks of school, students are practicing our West Point magical manner, "Make Room." This manner encourages students to make room for one more person anytime they can. We are asking students to intentionally look for ways to include people. Students will work on earning their letter "M" for Manners during the month of September.

Excellence Project
As a reminder, please help your student come up with an idea for an Excellence Project for the year. It could be something they want to learn more about or a skill they would like to get better at. The sky is the limit! We want every student to experience the feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment that comes from putting effort into learning something new. We have included information about the project below. We have designed it to be open ended so that it can be as simple or complex as you and your child would like it to be.
School Clubs
We are now accepting applications for STEM Club. The application can be downloaded from our website if the link below is not working for you.
