Spotlight
Red Wing Public Schools recently had three new teachers join the education team. They are (from left) Olivia Bailey, Marcus Romenesko and Kristine Rodgers.
Three teachers join district mid year
GET TO KNOW OLIVIA BAILEY
Position: Special Education Teacher
School: Burnside
Experience: I have worked at the before/after school childcare program in Lake City for the past 7 years. I was also an early childhood paraprofessional on my days off in high school during COVID. I went to Winona State, so I have field experience at a variety of schools in the surrounding areas. During breaks from school I would be a paraprofessional sub.
Education: Winona State
What are your hopes as we begin the third quarter at Red Wing Public Schools?
As a new teacher starting halfway through the year, I hope to create strong relationships with my students and give them the support they need.
When did you realize that you wanted to teach?
I have wanted to be a teacher since I was in first grade!
What’s your first day moment?
Being told “I love you” within the first minute of meeting one of my students.
What do you enjoy doing outside of school?
I love playing pickleball, going on walks, and spending the day out on the boat.
GET TO KNOW MARCUS ROMENESKO
Position: Mathematics Teacher
School: Red Wing High School
Experience: 1 year
Education: BS Secondary Mathematics Education & BS Mathematics
What are your hopes as we begin the third quarter at Red Wing Public Schools?
As the third quarter begins, I hope to bring an exciting new method of learning geometry.
When did you realize that you wanted to teach?
I developed a passion for mathematics at an early age and during my college years I decided to develop this passion into a career of teaching.
What do you enjoy doing outside of school?
Outside of school and mathematics, I enjoy hiking with my pups on sunny days and on rainy days bowling and billiards. I also spend a great deal of time coaching soccer in the fall.
GET TO KNOW KRISTINE RODGERS
Position: Special Education, long-term substitute
School: Red Wing High School
Experience: 8 years as a licensed K-12 social studies teacher
Education: Inver Hills Community College, Metropolitan State University, American College of Education
What are your hopes as we begin the third quarter at Red Wing Public Schools?
As a long-term substitute my first goal was to create relationships, consistency and trust with students and honor the teacher I am substituting for. As the third quarter begins my hope is continue relationship building with my students and develop trust with my colleagues as a team player that brings support, value and joy to education.
When did you realize that you wanted to teach?
According to a homework assignment my mom saved, in first grade where I answered the question, what do you want to do when you grow up with a proud, first grade print, “A teacher!” The reality of becoming a teacher was a second career choice and began when I went back to school in 2013.
What’s your first day of school memory?
My first day of kindergarten. My first cousin was my kindergarten teacher and I remember just feeling so welcomed and loved. I would learn that was not because she was my cousin it was because she made every student feel that special, a lesson and memory I cherish to this day!
What do you enjoy doing outside of school?
Spending time with family and friends, yoga, travel and spoiling my universe dispersed kitten, who came into my life a little over a year ago and totally won!
