Upon completion of the training, participants will be ACEs and join PSEA’s advocacy network. Click here to register to join us on Thursday, February 13th at our office in Montgomeryville.

Career and Technical Education Corner
Around the state many CTE's have established educational foundations that support student scholarship to offset the cost of tools, professional certification, curriculum materials and workplace experiences such as field trips and industry visits. In many cases these foundations are funded through the generosity of former CTE students and often have directing boards comprised of these former CTE students as well as industry stakeholders. Just another way that CTE benefactors can pass along future opportunities for students, increase industry recognition and bolster a competitive workforce of highly trained individuals!

PSEA-Retired and Student PSEA members may submit an application in conjunction with a PSEA EA member. PSEA’s Council on Instruction and Professional Development recommends grant applicants to the PSEA Board of Directors, with grantees recognized at the PSEA Spring House of Delegates held each May.

Retirement Estimates
PSERS can calculate your retirement estimate to show the potential monthly benefit you would receive at retirement through the normal, early, vested or disability benefit. Staff-prepared estimates are available to all members within one year of retirement. Fill out the Request for Estimate Form today!
PSERS Beneficiaries
Two-thirds of active PSERS members do not have a named beneficiary. (Yes, you read that correctly!!) What does that mean? Aside from possible additional uncertainty of your survivors, they could also have a significant state tax liability where there would have otherwise been none. From the PSERS website:
"You should keep your beneficiary information up to date to ensure that benefits are paid according to your wishes. If you do not name a beneficiary or if your named beneficiary predeceases you, your benefit is paid to your estate. PSERS benefits paid to your beneficiary are exempt from state and local taxes if the beneficiary resides in Pennsylvania. Benefits paid to your estate are taxable for state and local purposes upon being distributed from the estate. Both direct payments to your beneficiary and payments to your estate are subject to federal taxes."
There are lots of resources on the PSERS website to assist members with this task.
