A Note from the Superintendent
Our shared vision in KFCS is to help all students do their best work and become their best selves. One of our goals for students is for them to participate in service learning projects. This week I witnessed a tremendous service learning project at Roosevelt Elementary being led by the Roosevelt student council. The students are hosting a food drive to help families in need of assistance over the holiday break. They will donate all the food collected to the Klamath County Food Bank. When I walked through the second-floor hallway I could see several large barrels over flowing with food that the students were donating. As I walked into the classrooms with Mr. Dix the Roosevelt Principal he would ask, "What class will win the food drive?" Each class enthusiastically answered that their class would win. As of Friday December 10, they have collected fourteen barrels of food. The food drive ends on December 15, 2021. They hope to fill at least four more barrels by the 15th. I wish them the best in the pursuit of their goal!
The food drive at Roosevelt is one of many service learning projects that have taken place at KFCS this fall. This reminds us that we teach the whole child. Our students are much more than a test score. We support our students socially, emotionally and physically while we are also providing them the knowledge and skills that they will need to be college, career or military ready upon graduation.
We now have one more week of school before the holiday break. This is a time of year that we celebrate hope in many different ways. My hope for everyone is that you have peace and joy during this time of year.

ThoughtExchange - Late Start vs. Early Release - We Want Your Input
The district's current ThoughtExchange title "School Late Start or Early Release" asks staff, and families to give the district their thoughts and ideas on what is important as the district explores potentiall changing the current late start on Wednesday's to an early release on Wedenesday or another day of the week. The participation rate has been high and we encourage those who have not yet participated, either by sharing their thoughts, or helping to rank thoughts, do so before the release of students on December 17th for the Winter break. You can participate by click HERE.

Holiday Giving
This challenging year, the Pelican Education Foundation (PEF) Board of Directors was thankful to continue enriching education in the Klamath Falls City Schools! With generous gifts from numerous individuals, the PEF provided scholarships to college-bound seniors and replenished the Partner in Education (PIE) grant fund for educators creating innovative learning experiences.
During this season of giving, if you are able, please consider making a gift in any amount toward our annual goal of $10,000 for PIE grants and scholarships.
Or, perhaps you want to consider a legacy gift that will create ongoing support for many students, such as a named scholarship fund that distributes dividends in perpetuity. The possibilities are endless, as are the contributions that well-educated kids will make in our community!
"The Pelican Education Foundation is a critical partner with KFCS to enhance student experiences and opportunities," said Superintendent Keith Brown. "I encourage everyone who is able to donate to this foundation in order to maintain this important resource for our students."
Contributions can be made payable and sent to the Pelican Education Foundation 1336 Avalon, Klamath Falls, Oregon 97603 or through the foundation PayPal by clicking HERE
